Is there a sensor/gizmo I can buy to locate wires in the top few inches of the turf? I am forever cutting my Invisible Fence wire when I aerate my own property. (last time I fixed it I thought I marked it but I cant find the big nails I put in to mark it...duh....) If there is such a gizmo where can I order one?
thanks....

you need a pipe & wire locator like this one,

there are also tone generators with an above ground sweep for finding breaks. Ask your local electrical supply house.

Or a metal detector.

If all else fails, put the dog collar on your arm and walk up till you get zapped, put a flag in the ground, move over 20 or 30 feet and do it again until its marked all the way around. OUCH that would stat to hurt.

thanks for all the info guys...I did look up the link for the pipe/wire locator that stumper mentioned but they are really costly...like $700 to $2000 so thats more than I need. I'll try a local elec supply house.

Yes, it is called a trencher...Wire comes right out of the ground and wraps around it..also it is great for removing those pesky invisible dog fences...I pulled probably 50-60 feet of it up one time...

I had to use one of those about 2-months ago to locate some lost valves on a service call. I was able to rent one for about 30.00 for the day. I also rented a metal detector (my first choice) but I found everything but the valves. The collar idea sounds like quality entertainment to me.

Might be able to hook some kind of multi meter to the collar probes and use the above approach. Results wouldn't be so shocking atleast.
