Try euro american growers they produce "Proven Winners" plants you see at retail nurseries. The have been very helpful with new varieties and little tricks to keep the flowers looking good. Their web site is www.provenwinners.com they will have a rep for your area and they should be helpful.

You can grow almost anything in Zone 6. Go and cruise a large local nursery, send for a Park's or Thompson & Morgan catalog, get a book from the library.
Reader's Digest and Organic Gardening have books on the subject of home landscaping.
Almost all daffodils and tulips will do well for you; as will most of the minor bulbs. Annuals, by defintition, only grow one season and then die - they'll do fine for you, too. I'm in Zone 3 & have over 700 varieties of perennials growing without winter protection. You have, literally, thousands of choices.
