I knew there had to be crazies out there doing it...
Of course, the fact it is sanctioned by the USLMRA utterly disgusts me, once something is big enough to where some folks form an association, most of the original fun disappears.

Interesting tidbits:
The Dixie Chopper is the Official Pace Mower due to the fact it is the fastest mower in the world.

Featured on TNN Friday Night Motor Madness, CNBC Great Stuff and named as one of the three best sports quotes of 1997 by Newsweek magazine.

I am not sure that is a fact anymore I had a Bad Boy Mower run off and hide from me on my Dixie Chopper

Dixie still says they are the fastest mower in the world. Some are faster with thier decks off but dixie claims that they can still mow at 15mph. Which I can on my Xtreme but the ground has to be a football field or something with no bumps in it. They also modified a chopper to run 55mph (no joke) and was a pace car at a world of outlaws race.

Yea its decked out in full rollcage. and a 4 point seatbelt im sure.

They actually have 2 of them. They are turbine powered and the faster of the 2 does around 70 mph. No roll cage, no seat belt. I got to sit on one at the mower races we had here one year. Very wicked. Everybody was watching the races until they started the DC up. Then everybody was watching the DC.

They have had those turbine Dixie's for years.

As far as productions mowers go it may be the fastest. I really don't care. What I am concerned about is the total package and that is why I run Scags.

Oh and I am quite sure that the lawnmower racers are faster than anything we mow with. I actually think it is not too bad a thing. Use to be a few good old boys just have fun. I bet it still is.
