I never heard of it until three weeks ago, people in my Dendrology class use it, the people who have used it swear by it. These people are in the woods almost everyday and carry it with them.

Stihl makes some great fitting gloves I can even take keys out of my pockets while wearing them. The kind that Velcro’s on the end to keep them in place if I was going to do a job like you described at this cool time of the year I would be clothed fully long pants long sleeves and gloves. No need to risk itching for 2 weeks if you do not have too.

that's an awesome idea, he don't even know what poison ivy looks like. should i tell him what it is, or just tell him "brush clearing"?

i've had problems with poison ivy in the past, and have found tecnu to be very effective...i also stay as covered as possible (long pants, gloves, etc...) and discard the gloves as quickly as possible...at one point i was so gun-shy i would throw away all 'contaminated' clothes immediately...if i know i'll be around it i'll schedule the work for cooler weather to avoid sweating a lot...but to answer your question, i've found tecnu to be very effective and now keep it in the trucks at all times...

20 or so years ago when I lived in another house closer to town here is a conversation I overheard from across the street behind a row of hedges. (3 kids) One was doing all the talking.
one kid : Daddy said don't play in there cause there is poison ivy in there.
same kid: Daddy Said Don't Play in There. Don't be pulling that stuff up it's poison ivy.
same kid: I'm gonna tell Daddy on you . Quit wiping that stuff all over us.

I would not touch poison ivy for no amount of money or wearing an enclosed protected suit like folks who handle toxic chemicals wear. It does me that bad:realmad:

BG,
There are other products to use PRIOR to clearing that may work better - ivy block or ivy shield. The technu will work w/ clean-up & after exposure better. With any luck, you won't transform any further toward elephant man status.

Tecnu works good, but is slow. I had poison ivy about 2 months ago. I went to the doctor and she wrote a perscription for me. Let me tell you what, 2 days later and I didn't see a trace of that stuff on me. You can also get a preventative shot or pills Bobby.

I have posted this before but will do so again because it works. Since you know you will be exposed to the posion ivey, take appropriate preventive measures to keep from getting it on your skin. Ivey block, long gloves, longsleve shirts, Pants, boots, etc. As soon as you are done with the job go straight home and run a hot bath, as hot as you can stand the water, add one cup of clorox to the water. Lay in bathtub, without washing, until the water starts to cool, pull plug in tub and drain water and start taking a hot shower, this time using soap, rinse completely and then turn the water to as cold as you can bear and rinse again. The soaking in the hot bath will open the pores of your skin releaseing the posions which the clorine will nutralize, the hot shower will wash the posions, and chlorine, off of your skin and the cool water will close the pores. The method works good at preventing posion ivey infections and also helps with the cure.
