I am not sure how much to tell you that you should make in a day. I think $1000-1500 a day is pretty dag gone good for two people. Especially if you can do that 4-6 days a week.

But...

What are your daily expenses? I can tell you this much, as long as you are making as much, or more, than you are spending in a day, you are on the right track.

Good Luck.

Wow, i must be seeing things or someone is pulling my leg. Two people cutting, pulling in 1,000 to 1,500 dollars in a day. Let me get some of that gravy train. Or is there something really funny about this.first of all 1500 divided by two is 750 and at ten hours that is seventy five bucks an hour, for lawn cutting.(per person) If you are truelly getting that your market must be great or there isnt another landscaper for a thousand miles......... Brandy, Jodi asked you very nice to fill in your profile where you live. I've asked many times for everyone to fill them in. I guess asking doesn't work, so now I'm telling you to fill it in. I'm tired of asking.

Maybe I'm wrong, but on a GOOD day that would be possible. I kinda think that's stretching numbers for sake of sensationalism, but I could be wrong as well. I'm not out to impress anybody with big numbers; all I need is a full plate with just a little extra above that for good measure.
Anyways, I figure (for starters) I made about $120 a day in the factory for 8 hs. which isn't bad. Only a few yrs. into my biz (commercially) I was doubling that in about 5-6 hrs. on the avg. It didn't take long to see that 40 hrs. would EASILY pull in 1000 a week, I knew it was time to go full time. Since then things have grown, & I'm a happy man. My operation is somewhat small compared to some guys here, but professionalism is present regardless of size; my avg. week last summer was 25-28 hrs. a week mowing, going from a part time size clientele' into a full time schedule availabilty.

Come on Brandy fill out your profile. I know your numbers are possible with the right equipment thats why I just upgraded my equipment. I should be able to reduce cutting time and spend more time doing other more profitable jobs.

My maintenance crew brings in a min. of $1000 a day. On friday we do $1250 gross. Thats with three guys and two ztrs. How could you survive with a two man crew only grossing $650? I guess it all differs on where everyone is located. Here in NJ there is so much competition but there is also a tremendous amount of work also..

$650 per day for 16-20 days a month each & every month 12 times a year ...this is an Average per day work .... YEAR Round ...for a 2 man crew ....run 3 crew's and your dancing

My busy day (Monday but with 4 men) I make well into the numbers "brandy" makes .... but his statement was that was the daily gross ....my assumption was he makes that each day he works ......if that is so ....more power to him ....

make that day n' day out each month of each year and he is pushing well over 200-250k gross down here (4 days for 42 weeks)& even if he is N or VA line there must be at least 30 solid weeks the gross is 120-180k year ....that's per 2 man crew !!

That's not to say a serious outfit can't perform that money and I sure the full blown maintence guys that also plow up north for winter income ....make killer loot ....but for 2 guys to produce each & every day ...WOW!!

As you mentioned, you bring in around $1000 a day with a three man crew. You asked how could a guy survive making $650 with a 2 man crew. $666 is 2/3 of $1000 so a two man crew bringing in $650 is right on track per hour as you.

I'm a one man show,no ZTR,,, 48 hydro with sulky. I figure i can do about $300-450 maybe. It's still more than i would make working for someone. So i'm happy.

I have grossed 800 with two men with two ztrs and hustling and we could have done 900 to 1100 with the right accounts but we would be done after two to three days of that type of hustling and thats no joke. These are flat alwns who dont care about detail and they go fast with two riders. What can i say it can be done if done right. you just have to be a the right place at the right time. But i think 1500 is pushin it! I cant see it! Maybe he posted that to get everyones response. lol
And it worked. lol But in my true opoinion its hog wash because you have to take your time and do a good job to actually stay in this business so doin it fast is doin it wrong.

I agree that it can be done, but not day after day, after day! Sometimes I will weed wack real close and low one week to find out next time it doesn't need any trimming. Those weeks go real quick! Sure I could maybe get close to those numbers by doing this and making sure all were real close by to each other. But why bust your butt that much day after day? We are marathon runners, not sprinters! Sure I would LOVE to be making those numbers, but all markets cant bear those figures.

Oh well...

P.S. I think everyone should fill out their profiles like mine :) I have a lot of info, but, If someone wants to know what I use, its right there in my profile.

If they are making $1000-$1500 a day, you can best believe that its parked at the same neighborhood all day. And if thats the case they got it goin on. I'd love to pull up and mow the whole street.Travel time is what kills my profit more than anything.

I think the numbers that are floating around are attainable. It just depends on how you run your business. It is not how hard you work, but how smart you work. You can run around all day and make squat or run around all day and make good money. I myself don't worry about what I gross for the day, I look at the end of the month and average everything out. I will have 2 full time employees this season and myself. Currently with all signed contracts, my business will average $125/hr April-October. You do the math. I will work 3 days out in the field and my guys will work 4 10hour days with Friday being catch up or extra work day. As Eric mentioned in a post, don't think anybody can just buy a mower and make a zillion dollars. It is location, business plan, hard work and being smart by learning from your mistakes. This is not easy money, but appreciated money for all the hard work and time it took to get it. Oh yeah, I don't even own a ZTR (but that may change this season).

While I dont have a full days work right now, beings Im PT,but I know based on what I do in 4 hrs that I could easily do 500 a day by myself with my 60"Dixie.I feel that is attainable day in and day out,in no more than 8 hrs.

I am just wondering, if your "best" day is $1200, what is you "average" day?

I'm a one man show. I just averaged it up from last years records. On my busiest day....Friday, I was averaging $500 for the day (usually under 10hrs). This is all full quality, and being on Friday is most of my top end quality lawns. Not a lot, but by everyone else is figuring with 2 and 3 men, I guess I'm beating ya's ;) I know for a fact that 2 men can do MORE than twice as much work as one man. And three almost quadrupples the work of one man. Your limited then to how long your drive time is, because you cant drive 3 times as fast!

The thing some are not taking into account, is some costs don't increase regardless of crew size(truck expenses, trailer, ect.). So to say a one man show is making $ 500.00/day, if a two person crew is truelly doubling that their really making out. When I figure out daily goals I figure then second(or third) should bring in 2/3 of single person crew. To expect more I think would be unfair, you always loose a little efficientcy for each person you add.

When I have help,the 2nd person doesnt cut the time in half,So i could never make 1000 with 2 guys,I figure 7-800 with 2 guys a day,no more.

If I was able to cut my best accounts all during the same day that would be $770 for 22 customers. I have yet to cut more than 22 in on any given day.

When I have had help, its been my Father. He is no speed demon on the weedwackers, or on anything, but boy do we fly through the lawns. While i'm mowing, he's weedwacking and blowing off. On bigger lots, after weedwacking, he'll jump behind the Scag and start the back lawn or something, leaving time to blow off while i'm loading up the trailer. Bing, bang, boom..... and we are outa there! I get MORE than twice the productivity while using him, rather than me just solo. And he's 58! Boy i'd love to have him full time!

Well I have just installed my knee high rubber boots after reading some of these averages...............cause the stanky is almost up to my ankles right now! I can't see it unless there are some really good payers in your mix, and if they are really good payers then they must take a little bit of time to do right.

Maybe it's just a Bama thing, we poe down south. On a really good day 2 years ago we did $775.00. If I average 15 residentials a day I might do $600.00........that's a big if!!!!!!! More like $350.00 to $400.00 if things go well. Maybe one day I'll be able to play with the big dogs and get off this rotten porch. :D

I live in a condo in ######### Wisconsin (don't want to give away the town because i will bid and most likely get the job. The 2 man crew that does it now unloads and loads back up in just under 2 hours. They perform weekly service. We pay them $1500/month 12 months per year(also includes snow removal). that is 8 man hours in a months time. Take the eight hours and call it one day, that would be $1500/ day with a 2 man crew. These guys will be beat this year by me, I hope. I know the budget of the association. I will hopefully collect $375/ wk 52 weeks per year or $1500/ month from them. They have asked me to bid the job, since "I did such a great job cleaning and sealing the decks!" They are sure that it is better to go with me because " I will take pride because I live in the community!" My only fear is that they will think that since I live there that they can come pound on my door when someone sees a weed pop up in flower bed bed. My bid is for weekly service, not 24-hour on call service. I know that I'm straying from the topic a bit, but what do you think about this situation, more hassle than it is worth?

I'm a one-man show and part-time. I usually only mow on Saturdays, unless rained out and make it up after work or on Sunday. I have 2 hard Saturdays {10-12 hours} and 2 easy {6-8 hours} Saturdays each month. My gross, right now, is $1775.00 for 3.5 to 4 days of work a month, not quite $600.00 a day, year- round. I make as much on Saturday as I do at my regular job all-week. Seriously considering going full-time.
