I just got a call from a large customer in my lawn care business and he wants me to apply a 20000 square ft area with black dirt 3 inches deep and seed it as my business is lawn care my question is how many square ft does a yard of black dirt cover at 3 inches deep and what is the approx cost per square ft for grass seed [seed only not labor] thanks alot guys

their is 300 sq. feet in one cubic yard per 1 inch as far as grass seed depends on what type this will also determine amount needed to spread per sq ft.

20,000 sqft*.25ft (3" deep) = 5,000 cubic ft
5,000 cubic feet/27 cubic ft/yd = 185 yds
Seed - will depend on seed - check with a seed seller near you.
