View Full Version : Is it too late to overseed in MA ?

I've had a couple of calls this weekend to overseed and I was wondering if you think it is too late in the season to get good germination. The temps have been in the fifties in the day time with some thirties at night but we have not had a hard frost here yet. Should i take a chance. Thanks

In NH i have done studies where we tested germination rates. We were successful in obtaining germination up until November 15th. This is a warm fall we are having up here so I would go ahead and seed. The grass will germinate and grow to .5 in up to 1.5"

go for it! but you should avoid using pre-em on the lawn next spring as some of the seed will germinate next spring!

Sodking, what blends of seed did you have yor best germination rates with.

Perennial rye blends as they tend to germinate the quickest. The bluegrass blends won't germinate this year but they will germinate next spring. This fall I have been seeding Park and Athletic for the most part but I recently switched to Metro and Northeast hydro from Lesco...
