I know a guy that bought a new Lazer HP 48. He had the dealer put a 22 Kohler on it. He also has a 48 walk behing with a 20 Kohler on it. Lots of hp!
Talked to a guy yesterday at the grass dump. He has a 36 walk behind with a 20.5 hp Robin on it!
What do you guys have or have seen in the way of big hp on equipment?

You can get a 25 HP on a 50" Chopper and get a 50 HP diesel on a 72" Chopper. That is a lot of HP for those size decks. I have a 26 HP diesel on a 60" which handles it nicely. Lots of HP is nice to have.

AWM, Could you explain this? Am I just dumb? I have run big farm tractors that had 6 cylinder diesels in them and they turn just fine, just like my 20 HP diesel JD.

I can understand a tractor with a light front end that would slide while turning if it was slick and you were going to fast, but not because of to much power.

The picture above that I took that Plow Kid posted is a Chopper with a 150 HP Jet engine off of a helicopter. Now that is power. I figured I would explain it since he didn't. BTW, did you get permission to use that picture?

Too much is never enough. My Friends had v-twin Kohlers on there Toro 44's wb's along time ago. You couldn't get one from the factory yet like that. It scared their cometition to see 22 Hp engines on a 44 inch mower.(Not to mention taller tires for faster ground speed) They were eye catchers back then, but now its standard from the factory. Not that long ago all you got with a belt drive 48" bobcat waws a 12.5 Kawi. Now they come with 14's and 17's being the norm. The bigger engines will be under a lighter load and the smaller engines a bigger load and the larger engines wil last longer. But on the other hand fuel consumption might be a little greater. The 12.5 Kohler I have on my 36" belt drive is perfect. Awesome on gas and just enough power. BIGGER DECKS BIGGER ENGINES. After using a 17hp Scag hydro I cannot even remember cutting with the 12.5 Kawi on the same deck it seems so under powered. Times have change and Bigger is definetly Better with mowers, Ever run an under powered mower in thick grass early in the spring, wishing for five more hp? That DC on the post above should have just enough power to keep most of us happy, the rest will just have to get creative!

sorry to say but too much just isn't enough.just like anything else that's powered- car/motorcycle .the throttle goes both ways.it's up to the operator to learn when, where and how to use his machine properly.

The 18 hp lt OF MY SONS WAS A CHORE COMPAIRED TO MOWIN WITH THE 141/2hp.I think it just overpowered the machine.
on wet or going dn a hill it turned like a bad dream.
made work out of it.It needed about 200 more pounds
or some adjustments to put that power to the blade.
NOW THATS THE FINAL WORD ON THIS i guess.

"OH OH OH!" (Is supposed to be a Tim allen man GRUNT)
Too much power. I have a 17 hp on my walk behind and wish i had 31. When this motor goes i think i will ask my dealer to get the bigger motor. I get alot of tall grass types of grass. That extra power would come in handy in my brush hog/mulcher.

eric, do you ever actually mow with that mower? I think 50 would be the highest i would wanna go though. Wasnt it Bill Gates that said "Who ever in the world would want more than 64mb of memory?" Now a days, 64mb wont even open this forum. lol. I wont say NEVER MORE THAN 50, but i will say i cant use anymore right now. (If i had the 50 that is)
