I'm thinking getting all my guys a set of these for next year. We could aerate and mow at the same time.
This could be a huge money maker.

Liability is how to spell it. Putting aside any damage you might do with the spikes what benefit will they do ?
Better do some reading up on these. All they do is compact the soil even more. But you and the crew may get some clients who aren't knowlegible and will buy it.

You have to pull plugs for aeration. As Nosmo said, they compact the soil even more. Sure, the put a hole in the ground. But that soil has to go somewhere, and it packs it tighter.

How could you possibly not see this as a joke?
It just blows be away that people pay money for this stuff, or even better people are making money selling this junk. It is almost as bad as the mower tire aerator.

Or even worse.

Sorry that I didn't realize this was a joke. Because we have had little rain in the last two months I'll bet my ground would clinch those spikes right back over against the heels and soles. :p

That ebay item is funny. That should be in a cartoon somewhere.
WRONG.....You do NOT need to pull plugs for aeration to work.
All those shoes would do is scratch the paint on my Lazer.

Explain Please
Example Aeravator.
All you need to do is allow AIR and nutrients down into the turf.
Sure, core aerating is good, but it DOES damage the turf.
All you need is a hole. How that hole gets there isn't important.

Look, spike aeration is terrible idea. It compacts the soil and doesn't create large enough holes to really aerate. What you want is a Textron Lawnaire IV or something comparable. You can sell it with the mowing but you're going to have to do extra work.
If you end up doing the spike aeration, don't charge extra for it. It will pay off more to offer it for free and make the customer happy. If you charge for aeration that isn't pulled-core, you're ripping your customer off.

I disagree with your blanket statement of "spike aeration is a terrible idea".

Whether the shoes work or not, is not the point. Your employees will just look plain stupid in them. :dizzy:
Probably not practical for commercial use...can't imagine trying to drive the truck with them on, so they will spend time taking them on and off. Eventually they will wind up behind the seat of the truck.

Those in the photo are sandal types but even if they were shoes that would not be a problem especially in a lot of areas. Just kick the shoes off when done , put 'em in the truck or trailer and continue barefooted as a lot of ridgerunners do.

I have found under extremely rare circumstances that a hole in the ground is beneficial. The positives from removing a core are: relieving compaction, air, water and nutrient exchange, reducing the thatch layer, more positive seed contact with soil for germination, etc, etc, etc. If you are just punching a hole in the ground, you are increasing compaction around the hole, and your best case scenario is that the holes will fill back in and you will be at square one again.

areovation doesnt pull cores and it does a great job of relieving compaction by fractureing the ground in all directions. It also works better at establishing seed to soil contact than just pulling cores and also provides better air, water and nutrient exchange and will break up the thatch layer. The blanket statement that you have to pull cores to areate isnt accurate.
