I'm not sure if any of you fellas have run into this but the other day while going from job to job I saw a sight for sore eyes. An incredibly attractive young woman riding a scag w/collection system. I did a double take! I'm not sexist and I beleive women can do just as good a job, but let's face it, you just don't see women on Scags!
Well I asked my good buddy John and he said he's been seeing alot more women lately on the job. Has anyone else noticed this? I think its interesting...

I have had great luck with the women that I have hired, One now has her own co. The woman is in her late 40's early 50 and outworks most of the guys and a good eye too, you can't teach that. There is a local co her called "A Womens Touch" pink trucks and trailers. Thing is I have never seen a woman on the crew and they look dirty and crappy like most. Have never seen anyone from the co in assoc. meetings or classes either.

I have 4 part timers, two young women and two men. The ladies tend to be more detailed and more thorough. We let the ladies do the mowing, and the guys work the handhelds. It seems to be a good combo for us.

My first job in the green industry was w/a woman who owned and operated a lawn maintenance/landscape design co.. She could/would work side by side us 18 yr old guys (this was a few years back!) without missing a beat; she was tough as nails too....
...Anyhow I have hired a couple of females over the years and unfortunately it just hasnt worked out for various reasons. On the flip-side, Ive hired more than a few guys who have been completely worthless as well. Go figure, eh?

We have 4 younger girls working for us. One is our landscape designer and the others work on lawn crews or landscape crews when needed. They work as hard as the guys and aren't hard one the eyes either. Here are 2 of the lawn crew girls at 7AM... really not their best time of the day... I actually think they came to work straight from a party or something.. at least they show up. Plus they both have second jobs at night... go girls

SCSI, that's pronounced 'sexy'!
The YardMaid is women owned and women operated. Well, 2/3 of it anyway. Unfortunately, they out vote me 2 to 1.

My wife does hydroseeding and owns 51% of the company. She actually drags hose and sprays jobs by herself.

We have a red Ford stakebody and enclosed trailer. The other truck is a white Ford pickup and a open trailer. Currently we work together because the mowing slowed down. If the leaves ever fall the stakebody has a Lesco leaf vacuum on the back. If we stop at Mocha Mikes I'll buy the coffee. Matt

Read an article recently about a motorcycle delivery service back in the 30's. Interestingly enough most of the riders were women. The owner preferred them over the men. Why?
Cause they weren't as hard on the equipment as the guys were!

My wife has helped me from time to time. It sure is funny watching her on the zero turn, but she does a better job then most guys I know. She was in a terrible car accident and hurt her back really bad, so she doesn't do any of the trim work. Women seem to be more detail oriented. I don't care if they are women or men just want good workers.

My wife is my 100% partner and I can't imagine being without her. I try to get her to run the ztr but she would rather do the string trimming though occasionally I can get her on the tractor:D She's so good at the PR work and dealing with customers on a regular basis plus she loves the landscape
type stuff. If a customer needs recommendations on what to plant where, she can tell them what works best.
Another yard service has a husband/wife team and their boy who barely reaches the handlebars on the deckmower he was running the other day.:D

Lol, some of this thread is funny. Looks like some of yall looking for something to look at instead of someone to work. I help my hubby at times if he needs me as i have a full time job in the medical field, i'm not super model material but then again i'm not sure that any of you would consider me "eye candy" but i do get second looks from guys. If ya want someone to look at then go to the mall or a pool or somewhere where the females are dressed to be looked at lol, not working--physical labor. Well i guess i should stop now before i say more than i should....................................

My wife is actually the owner. We did that for certain reasons. Sometimes we have two jobs to do at the same time so she takes the gmc 3500 crew cab long bed dually pulling a 20 foot enclosed trailer and I'll take the f-150 with a 12 foot open trailer. At a couple of yards we have to back it down a dead end road. She does great, never a mishap. She does get alot of heads turning her way. Either driving the truck or out on the mower. Guess it's uncommon to see a long haired brunett with a big chest on a 60" hustler super z bouncing along. Really around here I haven't seen many women working in this field. But my wife works harder than alot of men and does a great job. She does help me on landscape jobs too. Alot of customers would rather talk to her than me..

theres a few around here that have there own biz's... i think homeowners would rather deal with a female than a male.. the husbands can oogle her and the wives can relate to her.. lol.. on another note, look how many fortune 500 companies have female CEO's nowadays and are doing great...

there are tons of job most men do that now women do and excel. i guess seeing them wont be big surprise.
We only had one work wit us, and was quite a speciman. Looked like Miss Fitness USA. At the gym By 5:30 AM, worked landscaping 7:30 til 5:30, went home and back at the gym from 6:30 til 8:00. No idea how she did that every day.

Hmmm. Maybe I should pick a girl based on her ability to navigate a ZTR. LOL, I'd never have to hire another worker, we could be like two peas in a pod, enough lawn work to live happily ever after. Don't you wives ever get tired of this. How do ya feel when you both get home and have to get supper on? Or do one of you go home early? Who watches the kids? Oh, I forgot, they are out there too, doing the trimming. There is this little company southeast of me where the feller has his wife, 12 year old son, 9 year old daughter, and father in law on the lawn crew. They do a good job too.
this kind of thing is on the upswing. I met a young man at the college who had his young wife help him. She was not exactly landscape material, more like eye candy, a bit on the frail side, but she loved him to death. He said she came from a very poor family; father was a factory worker. She thought nothing of helping him day in and day out even on rainy days and out in the cold. The poor kid was busting his *** to build a company and going to school at the same time was tough. His wife did have some time off while he was at school, they liked to go as a team. Wish I had someone like that, my troubles would be over.

During the summer our boy, 13, does work with us. As far as supper, we try to fix it the night before. We both share in everything. Now we do have our differances from time to time, either of us thinking a job should be done differant, but we work thru it.

I quit my job as a machine operator4 years ago to team up with my husband. I run the grass mowing part of our business and he does the bigger stuff like landscape installs, bobcat work and tree service. I really enjoy being out side and it's funny to watch the other landscapers just about break there neck as they drive by while I'm on my mower (Escpeacily my new toy Ferris IS4500 w/ a cat deisel) I love when a potential customer asks one of my workers "who is in charge?and they send them over to speake to me. They are a little lost for words at first.

Years ago I was installing a fence at a new nursing being built. Back then there were`nt many woman doing landscaping . Anyway I`m standing using the porto john, I for got to lock the door. I guess you know where this is going. All of a sudden I hear the door open, and a womens voice say. WELL YOU SHOULD HAVE LOCKED THE DOOR  I was so embarrassed I did`nt want to look at her the rest of the job.
