George, I was trying to figure out how many square feet per minute I can mow(for estimating smaller lawns), I know how many acres per hour I just need to convert to feet and for the life of me could not remember the number. Thanks again. I'll be bidding smart tommorrow Thanks to you guys!

I just took the PAT test here in Wisconsin. The sq. ft. per acre info was about the only thing worth learning in the whole training manual. It seemed to me the whole booklet was a big commercial for not using pesticides.

Well I guess its all in how you look at the question. A builders acre is 40,000 square feet, while a (regular) acre is 43,650. I guess you are probably more interested in the latter.

I guess you and I are the only ones that agree on the sf of an acre. :)

Eric and others are right at 43,560. I asked a farmer at work last year and that was his answer. He ask me the other day how many sq.ft. in an acre, my response was 43,560. He said damn you remembered that. I said sure when it comes to things dealing with my business, I never forget.

remember also though that in our terms it is not 43,560sq ft. it would be 43.560M right? cause we dont like thousands of square feet. use the term M that stands for thousand square feet.

Oops, I had a typo. Was supposed to read 43,650feet, but my numbers about a builders acre are correct.

dmk395, at least you are consistant on that typo. I think you have that number stuck in your head.

Get this one memorized, because what if a customer asks you this to see if you know what your doing. :)

43,560

Maybe this will help you to remember It
Do this!

1. Think of a number
2. Double it.
3. Add 87,120 to that
4. Now take half of that answer away
5. Now subtract the first number from that answer
6. Your new answer is 43,560 sf to the acre
Now that was'nt hard was it LOL

208.71 ft. by 208.71 ft. or

69.57 yds by 69.57

The pros use a wheel to get an accurate measurement for fert, spraying, and etc.

For a close estimate I use this method:

Try to step of a yard. Count how many steps for width and length. Take # of steps w x l x 9 then divide by 43560. This will give the acres. This is aprox. and will work for small acreage.

HOLY SMOKES! Anyone for a recount?! I'm with you on this one, Bob, ONE reply is all it should have taken. Thanks, Eric! I guess I should have been in on this one sooner!

It should of had one correct answer and that would of been enough. This wasn't a guessing game thread, but it turned out to be one. I think I will close it so it doesn't get posted on any more. Was there a prize for the first correct answer? Scratch that question. ;)
