I have a customer that has a terrible lawn. What would be the way to take care of the problem, topdressing with new loam and seed, or overseeding with areation? The customer also has a moss problem. The yard is about 15000 square feet. any help would be appriciated.

What is the cause of the lawn looking so bad? Is it from drought, or insect damage? Are you able to provide some pictures, that will help me to determine whether it is salvagable or if it needs to be ripped out.

If you have moss, you have shade and acidic soil. Have a soil test done and address the soil first. Then deal with the lack of sun and use a shade tolerant seed, create a shade garden or have some trimming done to allow more sun in. Then you can develop a plan for restoring the turf. If they don't want to spend the money to do it right, then aerate, topdress with compost, seed and fertilize and hope for the best. If next year repeats this season, the turf will look this bad again.
