View Full Version : Clean Up Before Doing a New Install

I have a beast of a job ahead of me. This will be the first time I've done anything this big. It involves pulling up alot of hedges, holly's, shrubs and trees. I know about what to charge on the install side of things, but I'm clueless on the Removal. How would I bill this out? I don't even know how long it is going to take me to get it all cleaned up. There are about 40 different things that have to come out, all of it old growth. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

Overbid the cleanup portion by 25%, based on your best guess of what you should make on it. Then, if it is extraordinarily easy and takes you 1/2 the time you thought it might, give the customer 15% of that back, they'll feel great and really appreciate you not taking them for everything they have. If it takes you a bit longer, then hopefully you've covered that with your markup, and made a fair wage. Lesson learned, you'll not make that mistake again.

haha I don't know what to bid, much less mark it up 25%. I think I would like to make about $6500 on the clean up but i don't know if that's too high or just right.

Can you get a pic of the clean-up property on here?It is very difficult to answer you with so little info.
Also what equipment do you have available to do the removal?If I were to take a WAG it would be for a large hedge say 40' long,750.00 or more.A tree,are you removing or just cutting it down?
a large tree just to cut it down and buck it up $500.00 +.A big shrub 50.00 +.
You will need heeavy equipment,a tractor or Kaboda
a large dump truck and or trailer.Charge for any rental and dump fees and bid it by the job not hourly.

mini ex and a chipper. Go in cut and chip as much as possable, dig/pull the stumps out with the excavator. 2 days x 2 men + equipment and dump fees is a starting point

it's trial and error
Take a chance and bid it out at what you think it would take. If you overbid, then you did good, if you underbid, then you know that you need to do better next time

Why don't you get some bids from other guys with more experience. Tell them you are looking to subcontract this portion out and how much would they charge. Then you can either hire them, mark it up a little, and watch them do that part. Or you can just do it yourself and have the benefit of having had a 2nd person bid it for you.
