I bought a Napa,it was 10 bucks. How much was the kohler filter?I would stay away from Fram, buy a Wix,baldwin,or purolator.the frams are known to come apart, instantly frying your motor by pushing filter media thru it.The Napa and Big A filters are both Wix in a different box.I'd like to pay around 5 bucks tops for a filter, thats what it costs for my trucks. These 25 hp's dont require a special filter, but we get charges a(special) high price.Let us know if u find some for around 5 bucks
----------
John D
My 25 Kohler takes a Purolator L10241 ($3), Purolator PureOne PL10241 ($6) or Wix 51348. I use the PureOne. My advice, stay away from Fram.
Ah yes,, the search for "chep" filters. If you save $1 on a filter and you change every 50 hours that 2 cents an hour you have saved. And if your bargain filter is not doing as good a job removing particulates from the oil/air/fuel how much are you losing in incresed engine wear? If you can find a name brand filter that will work you are probably ok, but the no-name filters are probably a very poor way to save money in the long run.

Hello:
There is plenty of info about filters in this forum, please go to top of page below the banner. Click on search then put Keyword filters in the search field & Whoop there it is.
Personally I would try to find a better more expensive filter! There is a lot of good info there & I also placed a link there to a oil filter study. It's a must read if like your engines to last a while!
----------
GrassMaster - Home: www.lawnservicing.com
My Start Up Page www.lawnservicing.com/startup/

Alan, I am not recommending these filters because they are cheap. Purolator, Wix, and other are high quality filters. Kohler filters and others are probably made by companies like Champion Labs or one of the other big filter makers. Kohler and others source their filters from these companies because they get the best deal from them and they meet Kohler's requirement, and that doesn't make them the best either. The filter recommendation by the engine company is much like the oil. They recommend it because they don't want substandard filters from China used.

I do not recommend using aftermarket filters for the oil, air or hydros even though as a dealer i can make twice the profit margin and still be the price of the oem filters. We use no aftermarket filters in our shop nor do we sell them in the parts department. We used to sell mostly aftermarket filters but when we really started comparing the sealing qualities and the strength of the air filter frames we went to oem. Many of the aftermarket oil and hydro filters are exactly the same as oem so I have been told, however, We don't feel that we should put our customers at risk.

I dont want cheap junk filters either, but there is no reason why we cant find quality filters, wix,AC,purolator, baldwin, etc for around 5 bucks. If you think they are junk I have oil samples to prove they are just as effective as the oem filters.I use 95% wix filters I even have the 99 master catalog from my local parts store because I buy so many,I get sample occasinally to check everything, and wix will stand behind their filter, unlike Allied signal(Fram). My friend has been using them in his 25K engine in his well drilling rig,600HP Cummins QS19 liter,if they are good enough for him, good enough for me too.All wix filters meet or exceed factory requirements for their intended application,so if they are equall to or better than, and 1/2 the price, whats the big problem. The only thing cheap about my filters is the price compared to kohlers, not the quality.I dont buy made in taiwan 2 dollar filters, these are top quality.
----------
John D
