I have read a ton of posts about machines you like, but what about your dislikes? have you ever owned a piece of equipment you just couldn't stand? what are they and why?

A Ryobi with the edger attachement! My shins still bear the scars from the early years.

The older 21" mowers that cant mulch well at all. Even if you do go over the lawn twice it wouldnt look better. I also agree with joshua Exmarks are the best but thats the only commercial mower i ever owned

John Deere f620 w/54inch deck
I only use deere commercial
mowers and bought a f620 ztr front
mount and it just didn't
hold up, traded it after only 900hrs
because the dealer had it more then I
did. engine problems, control arms..etc.etc
Don't know if I had a lemon and
I don't want to know either. Just had
to get rid of it.
For you guys that say you will only use
Exmark..your thinking with-in the the box.
you have to think outside the box expand the
your visions... I mean if a company designs
a perfect mower, better than anything you have
seen before, and lets say 5 years down the road
your mower company
gets bought out by one of the bigger companys.
I'm not saying this to be mean or get anyone
in an up roar but in the kind of commercial business
and the technical advances that take place every year.
you just have to be open minded. If we we're not
opened minded we all would still be using reel mowers.
I hope you get my point. and I understand that you are
loyal to your brand, and so am I but if I found a better
mower to increase profits and production I would change in
a heart beat.
I had a John Deere 14 hp with hydrostat.
thing just didnt have the power to mow
at a decent pace. That one really disappointed me as I thought I really had something when I got it.

Hey homer i had ryobi when i started out too, thank God those days are over. My best purchase was the pickup with a dump box. Makes it alot easier getting rid of brush.

I bought a Snapper belt 36" fixed deck mower with a mulch kit. That was a huge mistake. The design is such that you can't trim around anything because the deck is so far out in front of the drive wheels. The mulch kit didn't work either. It spit goo out the rear right side. It also would pop a wheelie way too easy. I sold it a few months later with a substantial loss.
I also bought an MTD (yeah-yeah, what was I thinking) edger for beds and first time edging that a string trimmer wouldn't do. Since the belt has to twist, there was no torque when it got tough and the blade would stop spinning. The right rear wheel can change positions to accomadate curb edging, but if you hit a nasty bump anytime while using it, the wheel drops to the lowest position and the machine hits the ground. Also the left rear wheel is directly behind the blade so any dirt or other debris spits up gets run over and cemented to the walk or driveway leaving a horrible mess.
I had a couple curved shaft trimmers. Didn't like them either.
Bought a hand held blower. It would always hit me in the leg. By the end of the day I would have pretty ugly bruises.
I guess you could say I have learned much from my experiences.

I would have to say my echo stick edger. I had a bunch of equipment stolen a little over a year ago and home owners would not replace it ( should have done my homework..bad assumption on my part) I didn't have a bunch of money to dump so I replaced my shindaiwa with an echo. Echo has no beans :( This year I will get another shin.

any thing belt driven has been my nightmare. Weather it was 21" or 36" it still SUCKED! It rains alot here and those machines are made for those of you down south that can take "rain days" off. We dont have that liberty up here.
The ryobi blower and trimmer. Both were fine for homeowners, but not for the jobs i was putting them up to. Ever blow wet grass off a pavement with a little blower? SUCKS!
Wood handles hand tools. Rakes comes to mind at this time. they CONSTANTLY untwisted. And they broke at the tines as well.
A push edger. Dont remember the kind, but it was orange and green. IT could barely keep up with my tanaka stick edger. Belts slipped alot on it.
The hand tool to edge. man, talk about a work out! I havent sweated that much since i was a fireman in south carolina. Yowsers!
Anything crapsman. Nothing more need said there.

Had too many in the past to remember-
One for certain was last year- self propelled aerator.
Beat my arms to death!!!!!!! The next day wasn't bad, but days 2-5 after that I couldn't feel or use my forearms, & it wasn't due to being out of shape, cuz I 'ain't'.
From now on I let the tractor do the work- that's why I bought the darned thing!
Another no-no for me is self propelled dethatchers too.
For all the dust I eat & bags of thatch I lug using those things, I need to charge triple!!!!! Back to the mower mount style for me!
Another that comes to mind was the peace & new found freedom when I quit walking & rode a sulky for the walk behind!! In small areas I still enjoy walking, but bigger areas I get to go along for the ride.
Also can't forget all the headaches that came from belt & chain driven mowers....... Do your self & your sanity a favor; buy a hydro!
