Have any of you made a discharge blocker, kind of like the ones Dixie Choppers have on their mowers? I am wanting to make one for my scag. I mow some apartment complexes and I am wanting something to block of the grass some getting in the shrubs and all over the sidewalks.

An OCDC will fit many decks as long as they are flat by the discharge opening. They make one for the 50", 60" and 72", one could fit yours.

How much do the OCDC Cost? I will have to look into that! How often do you use yours when you mow a lawn?

I bought one in 1996 when they first came out and I'm not sure what the price was. My long term memory is getting shorter. ;)
Now they come standard on the deluxe models, so it was included on my 2001 diesel Chopper. I will try to find out for you or just call a dealer.

I am currently preparing to build one for my Exmark. Mine will look just like the one that York builds, however, my handle will pivot straight forward and down like the Dixie Chopper's rather than out to the side like the York. Also, mine will be one whole unit that will quickly attach and detach from the system, using the bagger attachment slots, even though it will probably just be left on most of the time. If you contacted York, I'm sure they would be able to accomodate you with a setup that would fit you Scag.
I got a price of 300 to put the dixie ocdc
on my exmark.Whitleys say they do it fairly often.
York Sheet Metal makes a OCDC for Exmarks for $175 Plus shipping.

I made one from scratch for my Scag Turf Tiger and recently modified from control via a motorcycle clutch lever mounted on the steering lever to a spring activated pushrod/pad arrangement that I can just push with the side of my leg with I want the chute to flop closed.
Work pretty darn good and you don't need to take your hands off the controls to activate OCDC.
When I get a digital camera I'll post some pixs.

Thanks!
I noticed that you are only a couple hours away from me, How is business down there I mow around Linton and Bloomfield. SO far this year looks like it is going to be a good one, that is if we don't have a drought

I have a 36" Exmark, fixed deck, w/b. I made a simple handle that sticks to the rear of the machine, a handle that I can reach down and pull the deflector up, or knock it down while moving at near normal walking pace.
I found a scrap machine bolt in the shop, 3/8" X 8" long. I drilled a hole in the rear flange of the deflector about 2/3 of the way out from the hinges. The bolt is held in place with double nuts, one on the inside, the other on the outside. This enables the majority of the bolt (7 1/2"?) to stick out to the rear. That length is enough for me to reach while walking beside the machine, left hand on the handle bar, the right hand reaching down to grap the handle (bolt).
I took out the two bolts holding the deflector to the mounting brackets, replacing the bolts with a single through bolt, spanning both brackets. This makes for a loose fit, so that the deflector will freely rotate up/down. When in the up position, it rests against the belt shield on top of the mowing deck.
At first, I had to slow the machine down to a crawl so that I could get my steps right for the reach down to the handle. But, after awhile, I got better with my timing, and can keep nearly a normal pace. I don't want to stop the machine, thus emptying the clippings under the deck in one place.
If you wish to try this, be sure to position the hole in the deflector in the right place so that the bolt does not interfere with the bagging plate for your bagger.
I'm an old cogger - nearly 60, so I don't have much spring in my step any more. But, you young kids should be able to make it work easily with your nimbleness!

Duncan, IN,
I'm not a commercial cutter. I just have a Turf Tiger for my own 2 acres. Always messing with it to make it better. Great forum here to learn stuff though.
My real job is an engineer designing custom paint finishing systems.
Used to ride up to the Linton area to the BMW M/C dealer a few times before he closed up shop.
