Always use a conduit of some sort, usually PVC. You can drive an iron pipe, with a cone shaped end, under and then insert the conduit, or I have had great success with using a pressure washer with a narrow tip, through the PVC. It creates an opening just big enough for the conduit to push through and allows low voltage wires, lighting or irrigation, or even drip tubes and irrigation lines to be run through, depending on the size of the conduit you install. You should run more than one conduit if you anticipate using 120 volts or more at any time. Low voltage and house current are not the best in the same tube and water and house current together is an incident waiting to happen.
