Last month I purchased an 06' F350 regular cab, 8ft bed, diesel. I know the engine needs to get broken in first before I see optimum performance and optimum gas MPG, but I am currently averaging 8.85mpg which I think is horrible, My dump truck does better than this. My truck just broke 1,500 miles so I'm going to keep checking it and keep my fingers crossed. What are you guys averaging with your 6.0 ford diesels???

Yikes, I thought them PSD diesels got WAY better MPG then that. Where'd all that talk go? Heck, I'm getting 11-12 with my 6.0 Gasser in my GMC, and saved $6,900 from not buying the Duramax. Interesting.

Ok, that makes me feel a little better. I heard I have to wait till around 5,000 miles to see the best results. I do a lot of highway driving so i would be happy with 16-17 mpg.

Not only did you save the $6,900 on the gas engine, but here in Massachusetts i'm paying $2.69 a gallon for diesel and $1.97 for gas :dizzy: .

Just bought a F450 pickup 2005. We drove it back from Ohio to Arizona last weekend. It is an automatic with the 4.3 l/s rear end and 4X4. It also weighs in at 9,000 pounds. We averaged 14 MPG.

Rex that truck have any miles on it before you left with it????

this is my 5th PSD and they keep getting worst for MPG but my 7.6 was around town and I had a load on for abot 65 miles. The best its ever done is 10.5 mpg and that was freeway only. I sure hope it starts to loosen up and improve but I ain't had one yet that it made a big dif. in

I bought a 04 F-250 a week ago.....has 43,000 miles and I was getting 20MPG on the highway coming home....I was very very happy. And no aftermarket upgrades. The F-450 gets about 10 or so just driving around....no load.

my 05 f-350 ford diesel gets about 14mpg if I'm pulling and about 16 when unloaded and it's been like that from new. If it were getting less than 10 mpg i'd have it checked.

Nope you do not get 20.5 mpg. It is not possible in a 6.0. You need to use a calculator to get your correct mileage... the truck computer is incorrect.

And you have no where near 500hp. You might possibly have 325rwhp.

My Ford F-250 Crew Cab, Short Bed gets about 19.5 on the highway if I keep it under 70 using the cruise control. But since I raely keep it under 70 I get 16.4 to 17.0. That's about 75% highway. Tooling around the city I am looking at 13.0 to 15.0.

I know guys with gas engines getting 7 and 8 in the city and 10 or 11 on the highway. So I am pretty happy with my MPG, especially when I get on it.

I want to get that Banks Six-Pack but I am concerned about the warranty.

when I had my 2004 6.0 deisel the best I got was 14mpg. When I was towing I got abut 9-10. I got a 05 with 3 valve v-10, unreal torque and reasonable gas mile for a truck that wieghs in at 7000 lbs. Pulling heavy I get about 8 and unloaded I get about 11-13

Well I do not believe you on the gas mileage. Over 20 does not sound much like a calculation. The truck makes about 260-275 at the wheels. The chip might have added 100rwhp, but being a Banks chip it probably did not. The Banks chips are usually not up to par w/ Edge and others.

Hey toolbox, that would be flywheel hp which is not the same at the rear wheels. just shooting from the hip here but i would say you would lose around 20 percent though the drivetrain so that would put you at 260 rear wheel hp.

here is the link for banks dyno test on a 6.0 with your system. your about 126hp off. unless you have made a dyno run and could show us the papers......

2 things working against you...

1. 6.0 break in is usually around 5k or so, at least that is what I've been reading on The diesel stop.
2. Winter blend diesel fuel doesn't burn as well as summer blend at least contributing somewhat to the poor mileage.

Also, I run mine on the severe service schedule of 5000 miles because once the oil gets about 4000 on it mileage will go down and changing the oil helps to keep the good mileage up, at least in my truck it does.

Worst mileage I've seen with mine has been 13mpg with 7k behind it. Open road empty I'm seeing 18- 20mpg all day long.

From what I've seen, SCT X2 is the overall best programmer/chipset on the market.

Banks is nice, but you can get the same power with the SCT X2 for less money, and have quite possibly a more reliable setup, at least thats the majority of opinions on TDS.

20 is very attainable with a 6.0, I see it quite regularly myself as long as I don't run the mileage up on the oil. 682 miles (personal best) on 34 gallons = 20.05 mpg.

Depends which flash the truck has. Some have the later/better flashes and some are still running what they left the factory with.

No point in trying to nail down a solid number for all of them, there are just too many variables to be considered.

If I got this right, the Banks has six positions which are changeable on the fly. If that is correct, does the SCT X2 have a similar option?

A friend of mine has some form of chip or something that is a single power level unless you get in and change it with a computer. I would like the versatility of being able to change power settings on the fly.

You know, one day I'm 52 and driving rather nicely and the next I'm 18 and trying to blow the doors of some punk next to me that thinks he got some hot POS. This would allow me the options to make sure he sees tail lights and smells rubber.

Maybe he is tired of being found on road dead. I wouldn't even think of another FORD product they can offer all the discounts the can have, I told the zone rep that as much as it cost to drive a ford if he gave me a new 650 crew cab. I would sell the peice and spend a little extra and get a real truck.

Who pissed in your corn flakes this morning?

Fords are the lowest costing vehicles on our farm, at the sawmill, and in my operation.

Guess its all in how you take care of them. Some beat up on them and call them a POS when it breaks....guess you're one of them.

Of course I knew a guy who ran his F-150 w/300-6 dry on oil for a week while muddin and didn't have time to stop and put oil in and its still running today with no smoke or noises and has 350,000 miles on the original engine.
