Need a little help on estimating pine straw quanity for beds. I have no problem with mulch, however it may be due to limited use of pine straw.thanks

Thats a tough one. Depends on the type of needle and the quality of the pine needles? How thick are you going to be putting it down. Also depends on the size of the bales wich vary greatly from batch to batch. Is this to replenish or the initial? Some where in the 5x10 ballpark. Always give the customer a rough guess, the price per bale and let them know it could be more or less

On average pinestraw covers about 80sq' per bale. i charge 7.00 per bail to deliver and install .

I am REALLY REALLY REALLY cheap on my installs for pine straw and I am Between 6.75 and 7.25 depending on the area. and price wise 3 good bails will cover as good as or better than one yard of pine bark.

Some up here in Raleigh are charging $9.00/bale.

I only get about 35-40 sq ft per bail for a good 3-4 in thick bed

It depends on the bale size as Rhett illustrated. It also depends on if it is a new installation, converting from hardwood to pinestraw, or simply an additional installation over existing bed of pinestraw. We typically get 50sq' for a new installation or conversion. If there is already a good layer of pinestraw on the ground, then we say one bale will cover 60sq'.
