It is my opinion that it is not a good idea to mix business with a holiday greeting.

I agree Jodi,
I send my cards with a simple thank you and signed by me.
nothing else other than an occasional special note to a special few.
never about business just a special personal add-on from me to them.

I also agree with our mod. I would send out any coupons a little closer to the Spring, they will probably lose them or forget about them in December with the holiday craziness.

Mine are simple. A picture with some piece(s) of my equipment with Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas.

I just go out and buy packs of cards with nothing what so ever having to do with the green industry or my business on them, I do throw a business card in each one, Just so I know they have it.

My dilemma is that I’m never sure who to send cards to. I have only been sending cards to my regular clients but often think that perhaps I should include those “one-timers” as well. Thoughts?

I do anybody over 100 bucks, I figure one timers could easily turn into contracts with enough reminders.

I better clarify what I said here.
I send out to anybody that has spent 100 bucks or more on service of any type with me in the last year, that basically includes anybody I've dealt with.
I do it to keep my name in front of them, even if I don't get them as a customer I may get someone that was referred by them, just because they remembered me and kept my card handy.

Well, I'm leaning towards sending them to everyone. This would therefore include all of the people that I've done irrigation blowouts for, even though 90% of them would be under that $100 mark.
Like I say, I'm leaning, but not absolutely sure. Wonder what Donnie Trump would advise?

Well I'm no Donald Trump, but I say to send to everyone that you would like to have as a customer. So even if you only did a one time job for them, but you would like to have their repeat business, then send them a card. It won't break the bank, and it keeps them thinking about you.

From reading through these posts, ... sounds like sending a Christmas greeting has absolutely nothing to do with the reason for the Christmas celebration, but has everything to do with selfish business interests.

While I agree with your point... I don't think that most customers that receive a card like this are quick to be critical of the reason it was sent. I have been told twice by customer'e that it was nice to get the card. While I am not in the business of pushing my personal beliefs/spiritual ideals at others, I also don't try to hide my reason for celebrating the season. I refuse to water down my Merry Christmas greeting into a Happy Holidays "PC" cop out.....
It is true though...that I would not be sending these people cards if they were not customers of mine........So I guess it could be considered part of my customer relations/marketing efforts.

We work with a lot of elderly customers so for me, I do enjoy sending a card, I design my own cards and do take pride in them. A lot of the old folks live alone, and I like them to know they are thought of, we're not sending the cards for the reason that we think it will keep them signed on for next year. However, with one time clients, yes I do admit sending them a card in hopes that they will call us again if they need additional service.

I suppose if we wanted to prove a point, we could send out Christmas cards to everyone, clients, and non clients alike, but that surely begins to mix business with the true meaning of Christmas.
Jodi, I've worked with a number of elderly customers as well. Some have been the proverbial PITA, and some have moved on into rest homes and will never use my service again, but out of all the people that I think would appreciate getting cards from me would be these. Strange huh?

I send cards out to my regulars and "one timers" of the year, I even send a few cards out to some that were one timers a few years ago.
Just happy Holidays from me... Like has been said, it is just to say happy holidays and let them know i was thinking of them, and hopefully they will think of me next time they need work,.

I send the cards because of the season, I find its a perfect time to say thank you, considering my Christmas would pretty dim with out them to see me through the rest of the year. at the same time, clients that were not the greatest benefit to the company still receive a card with a greeting, and with that, I place hope of improved business, I see nothing wrong with that.
are you saying I should send them to non customers just because I'm sending them to my customers? sorry I can't afford that! by the way I didn't get one from you yet. you think everybody should send to everybody. Where is mine?
Jesus is the reason for the season and unfortunately as a business I have to watch what my cards say so I don't offend anyone. otherwise my cards would be truly about the reason, not about the season.
as a expense of business I don't see where its wrong to hope for a benefit from sending the cards, My cards say a simple thank you, nothing about please get me a referral or hope you consider us for more of your work.
just Thank You!
before you judge the motives, you really need to think a little.

Alot of good ideas here in this thread. 1St I do send cards and I have to admit it is kinda buisness orientated. 2nd I do send to all of my customers even if it was a ! time mow while they were on vacation or a mulch job. 3rd I usually send a card in Feb with a spring theme (flowers and green grass) as a '' How are you doing" and mention some services for spring and that when the mowing schedule will start. This time of year people have Christmas on there mind and not worried about having the yard serviced, that is still 2-3 months away. I will agree with who posted about the ''reason for the season''. I pray and am thankful for what I have and the opportunity and ability to work and have work to do. I dont attend church regular but I do beleive in the Allmighty.

Jesus is the reason for the season and my cards say just that. The only person that I worry about offending is God.
Do I push God and Jesus on other people, You bet I do.:waving:
