View Full Version : A little help with a kohler air filter needed....

I recently acquired a used 60 TT with the 23 kohler engine with the heavy duty canister air filter. It is obvious someone hung the air filter on a swing set or ran it into something. As you can see in the first pic (2921) the red circles indicate where the filter mount along with the throttle/choke plate mount to the engine. Notice the holes dont really line up and as near as I can figure there used to be studs that stuck up and the mount and throttle plate used to be bolted down to those. Am I correct? I did not see where a nut and bolt would work...
If you look at the 2nd and 3rd photo (2914 & 2919) you can see circled in yellow a crack in the engine cover along with the remains of those studs (if that is what is missing)... Before I waste any more time taking the engine cover off I figured I would consult the pro's. So what do I need and what parts do I need to fix this?
Any pics that you could possibly take of one of your mowers would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
P.S.? If you have no clue what I am describing, just tell me, and I will try to make this more clear....

what does it take to get those pics to show up instead of the dumb links? Do I need to have a seperate post for each pic? That is lame!

Yes that is correct, one picture per post.

Looks like a new blower housing is in order, There are no studs to hold the throttle plate in place. Instead they have a special sheet metal type screw to hold the plate, You can go here; http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp click enter as guest and see the break-down of your engine.

hey those pics are a big help.... now, those which are broken off my mower (circled in red in my first post, see pic DSCN2914), are they a part of the larger engine shroud? As near as I can tell I need a whole new engine cover? is that correct? I cannot believe kohler would engineer something this dumb, how much is that engine cover going to cost me? I tried to look at the pics at http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp but my computer will not display the drawings..... That throttle plate is suppposed to be screwed down into those studs, correct?

well then how does my "heavy duty" air filter attach? and what holds the throttle plate in place? I'm really confused now... Doesn't it look as if something has been broken off mine in the pictures?

could you post a couple pics of the air filter . also in pic 1 what is that wide peice of metal ? is it attached ? one more thing can i get a better pic of the whole front of the engine so i can see up in the carb ? oh yeh see in my last pic the stud coming out of the air filter it is fixed to the carb and my filter is held on only by that wing nut . same with the breather cover held by a wing nut .

All you need is a new engine cover and the two special Phillips headed screws to re-mount your throttle control plate and air filter bracket. You are loosing yourself thinking studs hold that plate on but it's only special screws that screw into the plastic cover where you have the red circles that hold the throttle plate and remote air filter bracket to the cover.
Without the spec. number off the engine I can't look up or price the proper cover.
Good Luck

I got to work and done some checking and looks like the cover is in the 60 to 70 $ range.

hey, maybe the mower got rolled, has anyone ever done that to a w/b? I would be kind of proud to say I did if I lived to survive. Thanks for the help. If anyone wants to sell me a used cover for cheap, you know who to contact..
