I charge $45 per flat. That includes flipping the dirt, adding a little, fertilizer and planting.

I charge $4-4.50 per square foot for our flower installs. However, we amend the soil, till it, fertilize, plant the flowers and then apply mini-nuggets. So, using your calculations, if you planted 4 flats (18 4" pots) would get you 72 individual flowers. Spaced every 6" would cover 36sq. ft. thus costing the customer $144 for the installation of my flowers, or $36 per flat.

...what exactly is a "flat"??
Two types as I see it. 1] Plastic tray that contains xx number of yy sized containers. 2] Molded plastic tray that has xx amount of pots for putting in soil and seed.

A flat is a bulk quantity, like a case of whatever. If the flowers are in 6-pac's there are usually 8 6-pacs to a flat, used to be 6 6-pac's in a flat but haven't seen those in a few years. There are 16 4" pots is a flat also, and there are standard flats that don't have any containers just dirt and plants and you have to pull em apart. The flat is the plastic thing that holds the smaller pots. The prices above are about avg. I would say 35-45 per flat installed. On such a small job I would shoot for the 40-45 range per flat.

Whe you guys are talkin it price per flat installed, is that price ($45 for example) the labor rate per flat or is that the price for the flat and the labor? Thanks
