has anyone ever ran into a city making it illegal to blow grasses into the street.

I usually blow it back onto the cut grass, and sometimes I have to run the mower back over it "with the bagger" for those customers who want it bagged

No haven't come across that. You are more likely to come across a ticked off neighbor. I have seen where one of my guys started blowin grass towards someone elses yard. The homeowner came over and started raising heck. I explained to him that I would take care of it and he was fine. From that day forward anytime one of my crews was in his neighborhood he was always out in his yard watching.

No, but I wish they would. One of my pet peeves is when I drive down the road and see some idiot blowing leafs, grass and other crap into the street  . I'm sure no one on this fine site  would be caught dead doing such a dastardly deed! Hard to believe we get a bad rap.

Its not illegal in my town but I refuse to do it. I think it looks very unprofessional and not to mention trashy. I try my best to blow any clippings back onto the yard before I leave.

Every day to day mow gets blown into turf areas. On non busy streets all leafs get blown into street and then cleaned up. it is easier to blow leaves to a hard surface and have a nicer turf and bed areas and then do a small sweep of hard surfaces. Last little bit gets put next to curb for sweeper to pick up.

It must be a common practice, It seems that every new guy I get does just that. Maybe a homeowner thing. The only thing we leave in the street are leaves. (for city pick up)

To me it looks bad, about the same as blowing into the middle of the drive and leaving them there.

As a side note, we never blow off of the main street, too much traffic and cars move it away quick anyway. (we are talking highways- 45+MPH)

Which brings up something else that we have to teach EVERY new operator.
DO NOT BLOW DEBRIS AT MOVING CARS. They just don't think.
And for safety class-- Walk (when blowing) against traffic.

I don't know if its illegal, but i saw another LCO do it and man did it look like crap, really decent lawn buy they probably hadn't cut it in three weeks, so all the blowout and discharge on the drive was a lot, and all of it ended up in a line in the street, horrible job!!

One of my customers clearly requested that I not blow clippings into the street since, according to him, he could be fined by the POA. They have some pretty strict rules in these suburban DFW subdivisions.

But I'm like you guys, I hate to see someone doing it and I hate driving through someone doing it.

Just wanting yall's comments on the subject

My thoughts exactly.
if you clean up everything, like trash as well as clippings it gives a good impression that you want to make it look good, and that you are professional.

Seems like a pretty common practice around hear. I see the big guys (Brinkman) for example doing it all the time! I had a "Code Enforcement" cop tell me it was illegal and he could fine me. :p

Well seems the general consensus (sp?) is no one does it  Just that too many LCO's do in fact do it.

I have the problem where the 'other' LCO blows it into the street and then a car passes by (commerical establishment...busy road) and runs it right into the front of my property I just serviced. I have yet to approach him. any of you come across this scenario?

I think it looks very unprofessional and not only that it can be dangerous. A buddy of mine lost one of his very good friends from someone blowing clippings onto a main road. He was coming around a corner on a motorcycle, hit the grass clippings and lost control of the bike.

Ouch. I know that when I ride my bike I'm always looking out for leafs on the road as they tend to be very slick. Never thought about grass clippings though so thanks for the heads up!! As for blowing into the street, I usually end up blowing stuff from the street into a small pile to pick up (in front of the clients house). After all, that IS the first thing you see when driving up to the house. Should look very clean and maintained.

My system is to edge, trim then blower sweep all debris back into the yard. This is so while mowing the debris will either be mulched or bagged. Then believe it or not after mowing it is policy to blower sweep again if it needed. This is to insure all clippings, soil from edging, trimming and even blow out from mowing is returned to the lawn. I insist on a clean professional finish appearance. Also I don’t want to take away anything that could nourish and benefit the lawn like the soil and the clippings. It just kills me when some one either a home owner or especially a LCO blows yard waste and debris into the street. What are they thinking?

I see alot of people do it but we don't. I think it looks very UNprofessional.
