Around what time of the month do you guys overseed and aerate? I would like to know around the best time for proper germination.

Do it now and you'll be fine. Even if the temps are slightly too cold the seed will sit there at least 10-12 days before it germinates anyways. Good Luck.

OK temps now here are around 50 -70 degrees over the past two weeks. We have a gentleman requesting aeration and overseeding (his lawn has lots of weeds and not much green yet). Will we still get good results overseeding now in mid april? How late can you overseed and get good results? Does the temperrature dictate this?

You can overseed during early spring. Right now is pushing it. Around these parts, some lawns have so many trees that all the leaves will smother the new seedlings if done in the fall. On these we wait until spring. But, fall is the best time.

Yes the temp. The roots need time to establish before the heat hits.

I overseeded my yard and took care of some bare spots on March 25 this year, the new grass is over 2 inches tall now.I used a 21-3-3 fertilizer and Lesco perenial rye/fescue blend.

Big Ed why not a fert with a higher phosphorous content?

I only would use 21-3-3 when the lawn is already in good shape and is fertilized regular. The high level of nitrogen gets it up quick, and since it is normally fertilized the roots will have what they need to be strong.I will follow that with 5-10-31 at the end of May.
If I was overseeding a lawn I didnt know anything about I would use Lesco 18-24-12.

Have you been to the local Lesco yet?

I've been seeding lately. I loosen the soil, overseed, apply a starter fert, then throw down about a 1/4 inch of Compro. The compro is very important part, It will jumpstart the seed to germinate quicker. The problem with seeding now is, the grass has alot of competition with weeds. In the fall, there is no competition.
Good luck,

Unless the desired area is irrigated and has moderate shade I would not overseed with Fescue now. In SE VA I do not even like to do it in March for the summer heat comes to early and to fast. I tell my customers they would have better results flushing there 50 bucks of seed down the terlit. September/October is the time. A good opportunity to start lining up renovation/seed work for the fall. Already have 2-3 customers for the fall.
