JD still makes WB's. I just bought a Red Hawk Hydro this past October and I love it. It gives a great looking cut and makes some pretty strips in a yard. Easy to operate etc. All around good machine. Check them out at Redhawk-usa.com You can email me if you have any questions on where to get one. They list for 3959.00 new and I got mine for 2500.00 still in the crate. My email is 2menandamower@bellsouth.net

Hey Scott,
I just saw a red hawk 48" hydro today, he was asking $2800 for it, demo from last year. I was wondering, I know you got yours a while back, are you satisfied with yours? The main thing that Red Hawk has going for it for me is the fact that I have a dealer right down the street. If I had my ideal move, I would prefer Exmark, but it is more money and my exmark dealer is about 30 mins away. My main purpose for this walk behind is a back up, so maybe 4-5 hours a week of work at most. Besides no dealer support nearby for you, how would you rate that purchase overall....thanks scott.

I bleed John Deere green for several reasons but I will not go into all the reasons. You should really consider the JD 7H17, that is a 48" deck with a 17 HP Kawasaki engine that is fantastic. Some people might tell you if the grass is wet and thick the 17 HP engine is to weak. I can assure that is BS because I haven't choked mine down yet. Also, JD has the 7H19 which has a 54" deck with a 19 HP Kawasaki engine. The 48's were more practical for me because I also have the Z-Trak models which fill the large deck applications. Anyone with experience will tell you to stay away from gear driven walk-behinds. Very cumbersome to maneuver and when the rain starts falling you may as well load that belt drive up. The belt will continually slip and the drive tires will not turn. If you can afford it go hydro FOR SURE!!
