View Full Version : Late start this year...
Well I thought this upcoming week would be the start of all regular cuts, but we are still doing a couple here and there, looks like another week....about a month behind last year....In Southern Indiana
Grass is still short and brownish green here. Hopefully todays rain and a warm up this week will get it growing. I had already started last year at this time. Oh well I need time to finish clean-up anyways. Although I would much rather be mowing.

Last year I started cutting a few the last week in March and I was doing them all by the 2nd week in April. This year I'm probly not going to start for another 1-2 weeks. I just started cleanups last week. The grass is starting to green up here in Jersey but the only thing growing are the weeds.
Thats ok though, in a couple weeks the grass will be growing so out of control it's not even funny. The late start is giving me a chance to start some landscape projects, thats where I make money.

here I have the same problem. Grass is still very brown. Heck we havent even had a 60 degree day yet. I will probably start 1 - 2 weeks later than last year.

Grass is still brown and still have an occasional frost! This week is looking alot better....Over 70 degrees for almost the whole week!
YEs, they have high 60s and 70s here this week with some rain, should help. The grass just isnt growing yet!
We are vry late to start in Minnesotat too. A good month in my parts(north Central). I guess there isn't anything you can do about it, just gives you more time to get everything ready for the first cuts. I'm anxious though.

Here in SC the temps have fluctuated alot. I am behind last years income too. Should be close to 80 by midweek and then get things growing better. Middle of march the weeds were growing like crazy then we hit cold spells and the growth slowed. Seems the whole country is cooler than last year at this time. I will take cool weather over drought anytime. In may is when the drought started.
I guess one good thing is we have been cutting a few commercials, and the those first cuts always take more time because of the trash from winter....but not in full swing

Late in SW PA too. Last year, first mowings were Mar 25 - none in the books yet this year. I expect to do a few later this week. Cleanups and mulching work over the past two weeks or more, but most of them are now done.
We don't even have daffodils blooming yet!
Last year the start time was a little early, this year late. Perhaps we are about 10 days later this year than last.

Working, Hardly, we still have snow up here in Mass. Last year we would have started a week ago, but not this year, we have about 2 inches left on most areas, and at least three feet of snow banks in the shade. Its gonna be one screwed up year if we dont get out soon.

Today was our first day back to the land of grounds care. we had a chilly but not brisk (thankfully) morning with a few flurries when we left the shop.
The plan for today was to clean out some large drainage ditches for a commercial client with brush cutters and chain saws to remove the larger saplings.
Although it was a dreary day the guys got the chance to reminess after the long winter break and get the cobwebs out.
The forecast is for better weather as the week progresses.

This is the start of our second week back to work.
Basically taking it easy, only working about 6 hours each day. Doing clean-ups and such, and today we had a mulch job at an elementary school. Don't really enjoy this type of work, just hoping to get cutting soon.
Supposed to be warming up so cutting hopefully is just around the corner.

Don't feel too bad guys. One would think we would be full steam ahead down here in Louisiana and I have to tell you it is a bit slow. Just now getting close to making weekly calls.

Thank got we do 80% commercial do to we get paid regardless starting this month even though there is snow on the ground.
