New to this. Bought a zero turn Exmark mower. Can't get the starter to crank. Just once or twice. I hooked up some jumper cables, but don't know how to disable the seat safety switch. Any help is appreciated. 18HP Kohler engine. Battery is under seat, have to tilt seat forward for access.
Thanks.
I have heard, hypothetically speaking, just something off the internet, I of course wouldn't recommend it, completely off the record, you didn't hear this from me... With most seat safeties you can unplug them and simply insert a short wire to make the connection.

Just engage the parking brake. On our machines as long as you have the parking brake on you don't have to be in the seat to start them.

Put levers in neutral, engage brake, if still no-go, you can find the switch and hold it down...

if you are trying to jump it from a truck you may blow out the batt. and starting system to many amps for such a small system better off to put on a trickle charge for a while

Hmmm, maybe safer to pull the battery cables off the mower battery and hook directly to the jumpers?

Thanks Tvov. I mean hypoethically speaking, if I had created such a short wire and used it, I'm sure it would have worked. Thanks again.

it will still be to much juice for that small battery will boil it at the very least worst would be it would blow up on you seen it happen with 4-wheelers same battery in lawn equipment. use another lawn mower or a battery charger on low

Hmm, missed my point, remove the cables from mower battery all in all. No charge going to battery at all, all is going to mower cables...

Put a trickle charger on it, wait a few hours then try to crank it up, and yes ive ruined a few batteries jumping from vehicles.

Hook a positive jumper cable to the positive stud on the starter. Hook the negative to any good grounding spot on the mower. Crank away.

I sure don't know how hooking a 12 volt mower battery to a 12 volt vehicle is going to hurt it! The alternator output voltage is limited to about 14 volts. The amperage rating doesn't make any difference. If you have a 100 amp alternator, the current flow is still limited by the internal resistance of the battery and the connections.
On the other hand, if you try to jump start a vehicle with another vehicle, SHUT OFF the vehicle with the good battery. If you leave it running, then hit it with the increased load from starting the other vehicle, you can fry the solid state voltage regulator in the good vehicle. (Yea, I know, I've always left the good car running, too. But I don't now, since I know someone that blew out a perfectly good alternator doing this!).

same reason you dont want to hook up a battery charger on boost an leave it it is still 12 volts but you better believe it will blow you battery if you leave it on to long

same reason you dont want to hook up a battery charger on boost an leave it it is still 12 volts but you better believe it will blow you battery if you leave it on to longPlease explain how that would happen. Since the battery is the current limiting device, I don't see how you could blow it up with a 14 volt charger.

its not the volts you need to worry about, its the AMP's just like voltage doesnt kill you the amperage is what does it.

I = V / R, That is, Amps = Volts / Resistance
The charger voltage doesn't change, still about 14 volts. The internal resistance of the battery doesn't change. You only get increased current flow when one of those changes.
