Yes, I do the maintenance for the local utilities company. Two weeks ago we worked on Sunday because it was supposed to rain all week and I did not want to get behind. Monday morning at 7:15 a.m. I recieved a call from my contact at the utility company stating that Sunday cuts should not be preformed in highly residential areas because there was a complaint about the noise. I asked which location was he talking about and come to find out it was one in which there were no homes w/in 100 yds. Some people just like to complain about anything. I also have some clients who don't mind if I work on Sat. or Sunday. All of this being said, I don't like to work the weekends but it's a must if weather does not co-operate with me during the week. If you are referring to residential customers, just ask them if they have a problem with you working on the weekends and this will nip the problem in the bud. Good luck.

I do have a couple of residentials where they want to know before hand if we are going to be by on Saturday, but we don't work on Sunday or evenings.

round here work on sunday is a big no-no. i have had customers tell me that they saw "xyz" company working on sunday and that evidently they have no life, no planning, or they say some other derogatory comment. here in the bible belt i feel that sunday work would definately be more detrimental than anything even if a big storm was coming or not.

You might be able to get away with unoccupied real estate properties which are sort of off to their selves. I try to ask people up front about late evening or weekend work when I'm working up their initial estimate.
Sunday is a good equipment maintenance day and rest day for me. :)

Residentials should be completed between 730am and 730pm.

Commercial and Industrial accounts we have cut as early as 5am and as late as 1130pm.

I work full time so I always mow in the eve and on the weekends. Sunday is not an issue here. I often mow into the dark and a few people have expresses some "concern" for my safety. I got the new exmark ecs hydro this spring. I intentionally got it with electric so I could put lights on it.

We are in the bible belt here as well. If I know we are going to have to hump iy on a sunday to prevent getting behind I simply ask each every customer that we will be visiting if it is ok. I do these every time i know we will be there on a Sunday even if they said in the past it was no big deal. If the customer says go then I really do not care what the neighbors think. People that work on Sundays have a life. The peopl who question that ought to be thankful for the medical staffs, police officers and lets not forget those who work in retail to better suit the needs of that neighbor of your customer that is commonly referred to as a consumer on the weekend. And oh yeah I dare not forget about the employees that work at the wonderful CASINO's we have here in the great state of Baptist :D. They talk down gambling yet on a sunday afternoon they take advantage of the buffet and a quick sneak on the the floors to make a quick buck for their entertainment. To me sunday is just another day.

Its not just a bible belt issue. You should be considerate of others and when it comes to residential not cut on Sunday. The noise level is what you need to consider. Most people are off on Sunday and want piece and quite and if enough people start complaining the government may step in and put restrictions on when mowing can be done. And we all know the government will overdo anything it does.

I don't like to work a weedend day but sometimes you just have to. I have one big commerical acct. that is next to impossible to do during the week because of cars, people, doctors, etc... so I do the areas where the cars park, on sundays, and finish on monday out of peoples way. I try not to start before 8am and have had no complaints so far, knock on wood. Unfortunately with commericals you sometimes have to work around around other peoples schedules, but for me they pay the best and are yearly accts. so I guess you do what you have to do.

Residentials are off limits on sundays if its in a neighborhood. Commercial is a go anytime. And on race day nothin gets done, you southern boys know what I mean!

in my area the people can give a care less about when you come wethere it be sunday or maonday it doesn't matter to them. same with time we don't start until about 10:30a.m. and will cut until dark if we have to. landscaping and other jobs they don't care aslong as we don't make much noise they just want it done. i have never had someone tell me tyo come back another day because it was sunday or it was 5:30, if i do i might have to laugh, there 's way to much work out here to have to worry about getting to mrs. y's house and cut it at 5 on wensday.

I do most of my work in the evenings and Saturdays, since working a day job too. I have just a couple of customers that don't mind if I have to cut on Sunday afternoons. I usually try to avoid working on Sundays since that is the day that I try to get work done around my house, mowing, mulching, planting and the every present "Honey-do's".

I just realized that I didnt post about the sunday portion of this thread.

It is in my honest opinion that we should ONLY cut on this day if it is a Commercial or industrial account that wont affect the leisure time of others.

We usually reserve this day for a corporate park or the like where during the week there will be hundreds of cars and this way the lots are empty.

Here in Bama people will hurt your reputation if you work on Sunday. I cant understand it because someone always has to be working somewhere or everything would just stop and i even had one customer last year that her religion was seventh day adventist which some of my relatives are to and they dont work on sat. but i look at it like this you got to do what you got to do. I try to stay away from the sunday work for my business sake, but the sat. work is a catch up day or get a head day since the bad weather does not always help out in our line of work. The weekdays are fair game I guess as soon as the dew is off the ground till the last bit of light.

I mow whenever I can(in daylight). It rains, I'll definately have to work weekends.
If the grass is high, cut it.

Was just working this past Sunday, in my own neighborhood, mulching, not noisy at all. Neighbor of house I was at dog starts barkin. Dick comes out, (name changed to protect ignorant) says I thought Sunday was the Lords day, I say yeah I was just at His house for 5 hours! Tells me he cant work with his dog barking! In some families the gene tree doesn't have many branches. If my pastor works on sunday should I feel bad? what if Sat is your Family day should you not work then? what if it rains 3 days? I have consideration for all but some people cant help finding negatives in their daily life.

I work this time of year non stop. 12 - 16 hr days 7 days a week. i only have 2 customers who i do not do this at. that is because they are severly religious. one is a rabbi and has told me that if i am there on a saturday or holiday i have 45 seconds to leave before he shoots at me with a shotgun. the other one is not as bad but is a friend of mine and i know where it is at. but the rest of them. collecting money at 9:30 - 10:00 pm is not unheard of. i work as long as i have to to get caught up. usually if i am out late some of my customers feed me dinner or give me drinks or whatever. so i dont really care. plus i have no life anyways.

Pay me enough and I will work anytime you want! I do try to stay away from late evening. But any other time or day is fair game. Usually nobody wants service on weekends unless its been raining all week or they are having company etc. so I usually do not have to worry about this but a few times a yr.

Peace!!

Usually I can get my work done during the week; During the busy season that doesn't always happen.
I really try not to work (my biz) on the Lord's day; that is my personal conviction. I don't expect everyone to have the same convictions, & I can see points on both sides of the issue.
I have in the past worked a Sunday or 2 to get caught up or to meet a Monday deadline for a customer after rainy week, etc.
I have no problem working till or in the dark-esp. soccer fields! Lights on my Steiner light up the night & I love it.
I try to get res. work done before dark out of courtesy to others.
Shoot for the best & don't expect to get it EVERY time......

We follow the city code for sound in residential areas (7:30am-11:00pm)for most cities. yes its listed that late and ok with the city. but if there is a complaint we have to quit untill another time. and only allowed one warning. if caught back in the same place the same night and recieve another complaint were busted and get to meet the judge.
But other than that were 24 / 7 up in here.

We try not to work on Sunday either, I need time with the wife and kids. We have worked a couple here and there but only in emergencies.

On the other side of the coin: Why, if you are anti-work on Sunday, would you go out to eat, buy gas, go shopping, do anything that would require somebody else to be working for your convenience. There once was a time when no businesses were open on Sunday now we force millions to work on Sunday so we can eat, shop, etc...........!

I guess I'm a little confused as to why folks that mow grass get frowned upon for working Sundays but when all these folks leave Church they go out to eat, why don't they go home and cook like everybody used to. If the eatin' joints closed up they would have a fit, if they couldn't buy gas or go to the mall they would cry. They force others to work because they need something to do with their "day off".

I just wish every town was like Mayberry, sit on the frt porch and eat homeade ice cream and whatch the kids play. Really take a day off!

I also go to Church so I'm not condeming the Church goers, just had to vent. I guess I am as guilty as others. We wouldn't know how to act if everything shut down.

Good point, Homer. I don't work on the Lord's Day or encourage others to, except for acts of mercy and necessity (doctors, etc). I haven't found cutting grass, shopping, going to a restaurant to eat, and the rest to be a necessity. I plan a whole week of work and one day of worship and rest.

I try to do 3 of my commercial accounts on sunday when ever possible. I don't have to worry about their customers being in the way and such. I havn't had any complaints from the neighbors. I don't start before 1:00 though.
