Just a suggestion. Maybe we already have this and I dont know about it. But anyway.

Is there anyway you could make a link so we can view how many people are of X amount of age, and how many people are from X state?

I think it'd be neat to see how many people are in the 20-40 year range, while im sure 1/3 of the people here are 18 and younger.

I would say less than a 1/3 are under 18....probably even lower number than that. The younger crowd may be more willing to ask questions and make posts that sometimes stir the pot - but definitely not a clear indication of membership...take a look at the bottom of the site on any given day where birthdays are announced....like today for example...the youngest birthday today is 21....here are the ages

(63) (62) (55) (50) (45) (43) (39) (39) (39) (37) (37) (36) (35) (35) (35)
(32) (32) (31) (22) (22) (21)

good point Sean. Maybe the reason that we think that there are so many young people IS because they ask the most questions

Actually looked it up....here is what I can tell so far since it takes so long to generate lists...

current members of the site = 34,604 (as of 12/28/05 at 4:30 pm)

number of members who have revealed birth year = 28,414

number of members born before 1/1/1988 (18 years old or younger) = 4,103

percentage of members under age of 18 = 14.4%

even if half of the 6,190 who did not reveal birth year were under age 18 that would bring the total to 7,198 of 34,604 are under age 18 or 20.8%

SO, YES, DEFINITELY LESS THAN 1/3 OF THE MEMBERS ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 18, WHICH DOES NOT COUNT THE ONES THAT ACTUALLY ARE 18

Did you mean born AFTER 1/1/1988 ? And does that change the numbers?

Sean Adams

Your stats are based off the location, age that is given in their profile. How many give the correct info in their profile? I would have to say not as many as you think.

I would be nice if everyone was honest wouldn't it...especially on a professional Forum.....I guess thats one of the things about the internet...you can be anonymous if you want....I guess you can be whatever you want.......

There's not too much I can do about people not being completely honest in their profile.... I do not think people become "dishonest" in their profile util they spend some time on the site and feel the need to change their age in one direction or another.

Yes their may be more than 1/3 ACTIVE members under 20 years old. There only appears to be about about 200 - 500 at the most ACTIVE members. :)

Not even in the ball park Bill... shouldn't assume what you do not know

There are usually anywhere from 250-400 members on the site at any given time of the day - and we time people out after 15 minutes of inactivity or when they leave the site - unlike other sites who try and fluff their numbers by leaving people signed on to the site even hours after they have signed off....

Yesterday alone over 7,200 members came to the site and over 22,000 guests (meaning people who are either not logged in or are not registered at the site). We had almost 30,000 unique people at the site yesterday alone.

Just because people do not post every single day does not classify them as inactive...

i agree, there isn't anything you can do about it. But, it would be nice though if all members were honest with their profile info.

I think though the reason that members are not honest with their profiles is because they are afraid that if they do, other members will use that when cutting them down or telling them that "they know more or are older".

I was on a fishing expedition to see if you would bite and give some real numbers for active members. See I knew what I was doing.

Unique eyeballs are all that count online, that's all the advertisers care about and that's what drives this site. Do I care if there is a stupid question or comment posted 3000 times by 3000 different visitors? nope. I don't spend any more time with them at 3000 than I did at #1, which was zero. There are plenty of useful threads though and that's what keep me reading. I've seen idiotic behavior displayed by 50 year olds just as much as 18 yr olds, so who cares..lol..for the record, I hope I'm more useful now than when I was 18, but that's all perspective, so those of you that are young and starting out, that are reading this thread, keep on asking questions, ask them to a variety of sources, test them out in your own operations and you'll find something of use for the long term.
