just thought i would post this to inform some people about the law.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A record number of Missouri businesses were ordered to obtain worker's compensation insurance in 2005.

The Missouri Attorney General's Office says it forced 362 businesses to comply with the law this year, up from 148 in 2004.

Also, employers not in compliance with the law were ordered to pay a record $755,000 in penalties, up from $557,000 in 2004.

State law requires businesses with more than five employees or construction companies with one worker or more to carry worker's compensation insurance.

In NJ, the Dept. of Labor goes to your business and does random audits. Last year they caught a boatload of LCOs who were not carrying WC. I remember reading about one outfit getting like 70 or 80K in fines.
