I've noticed that Redmax offers a trimmer with a reciprocating cutting head. Their claim is less thrown debris. My question is how does it perform. Can it take stikes against poles, sidewalks and such? Can it double as a stick edger?

Any reports appreciated

I've got a Red Max reciprocator and have mixed feelings about it. Plus side: doesn't throw grass all over the place, can use it to trim growth under water, very quiet running, handles brushy stuff quite well. Minus side: somewhat heavy on the cutting end, not suited well to stick edge with, and high initial cost. I got mine from a guy closing out, but wouldn't pay the new cost if I needed to replace this one. Hope this helps...........Lynn
