Dethatching- Is it to Early

I had a customer call and want his lawn dethatched ASAP.
I've always done spring dethatching after the grass is growing.

Won't this pull out alot of grass at this time of the year in my area. Our grass hasn't even started to grow yet.

Also I haven't looked at the property yet. He may not have any thatch anyway. I was just wondering what you fine people thought about it.

I notice your from Lancaster...I am in Buffalo.. We have a TREMENDOUS problem with snow mold around here this year.. I suspect your customer is confusing thatch buildup with snow mold issues, I personally would NOT thatch yet... You will probably do more harm than good right now... Even when raking lately, I am pulling up huge areas of grass especially problem bentgrass. I would wait for growth to begin, when the grass strengthens.
