can you take a 99 F250 with a 5.4 and swap the engine out for a 6.0 along with a new trans. if so what needs to be done? Im just brain storming

One would think it's simple, but I think your gonna get ALOT more than you barganed for. Ford is know for not having many parts interchangable. That Diesel theoretically will find, but the computer, cooling system, suspension, steering box, wiring, etc will probably be different. I may be wrong, but just judging by todays technology and sophistication this may be what your up against.

Motor mounts, computer, wiring harness, exhaust system, instrument cluster/panel, tranny bracketry, intercooler and radiator plumbing, driveshaft length, electrical system, front springs if not equipped for the diesel engine's weight, etc.

Yes much more economical.

6.0's are $15k by themselves not counting the cost of a new tranny. Wrecked trucks with 6.0's still go for $8-12k....

if i was going to make the switch i would opt out for the 7.3. it would be a cheaper built and less potential problems

Figure it like this. 6.0 $13k, tranny $4k, exhaust $1k, plus wiring harness, motor mounts, ECM and new dash. If you got out for less than $20k you'd be doing good. I'd find a used 7.3PSD for 12-15K and call it a day.

New 6.0 engine+Torqshift trans+new computers and wiring+new motor and tranny mounts+new front suspension+emissions and resale issues+current value of truck= a whole hell of a lot more $$$ than just buying a truck with the diesel already in it.
