C-4500 decision

Which truck would you get if it came down to these two. Both are new and priced very close.

Truck 1, $43,500- 2006 C-4500 with allison transmission, 10 ft. dump with contractor sides and central hydraulics or,

Truck 2, $44, 600- 2005 C-4500 diesel allison transmission, 11 ft. dump with contractor sides and central hydraulics.

I'm not going to be doing too much driving (6-10,000 annually) to justify a diesel but wondering if the price break is too good to pass up. Another concern would be that the 2007 models are coming out later this year and the 2005 would already be 2 years old, even though I just picked it up new.

I think if your not doing heavy hauling the 06' is fine. But if your going to be constantly towing and hauling I would go with the duramax because they take the beating better than the gaser. And the 07' aren't going to be much different then 05' or 06'. I think the warranties should be the same because there both new. But whichever you get its the right choice, because your a gmc/chevy man!

the duramax is awsome we have a 04 4500 and just love it, idk much about the gas motor

The Duramax is about a $5000 option, so if you can get it for $1100 more that's a bargain. The extra foot of bed is another bonus. The Duramax should hold it's value a little better so it's a moot point that the Duramax is a 2005. Either truck would be great to have, though.

i think the gas would be a terrible choice. It has an 8.1L engine and high rear end gears. This will make the fuel milage terrible... I would be surprised if you got even 8mpg. THere was a guy here that had the 8.1L/allison (4.10)in a 3500 and he said he was getting 6-8mpg i believe... the 4500 is going to have taller gears and therefore lower fuel milage. Take it for a 50 mile spin on a full tank to see exactly what the fuel milage is. You will be unpleasantly surprised.

Definately go with the diesel. Heck, for $1100 more your practically getting it for nothing because like was said earlier its about a $5500 option. We have a D-max and get about 17 mpg empty. Thats a combination of city/highway driving so in my opinion thats pretty good. That gas engine would be a very bad choice IMO.
