Good items to start out with. In a few years you will have new and better equipment. But when you say Husky 36 chainsaw you mean 36 as in model #? And whats the need for and old homielite' with a 36" bar. Anything that big should be done by the professionals, such as my company (me and my brother.)

P.S. Id stick with husky chainsaws they take the beeting better:D

We, Me and my dad do tree work saturday and sunday. I do the lawncare on the week although in the spring and fall theres not much time for tree work. we have more equipment that is more related to the tree service side of the business but my dad purchased most of it. And yes 36 is the model size.

Climber how would you consider yourself a proffesional in the tree service if your only sixteen. I am only 18 and know i am still only learning, before ever contracting out to do a job I worked for a old timer who does tree service in the winter. So I climb and my dad works the ground.

I dont consider myself a professional I consider my brother (ISA certified) and I professionals. Because in the summer we are out everyday busting our balls. And I dont bash people for what they do I just like see what you are doing in a detailed manner. An if you dont mind what kind of equipment does your dad use?

How dose equipment matter? what if he gets the job done with his crap equipment, and at the end of the day it looks better than yours? equipment means nothing! What if all it means is that he has better things to spend his money on? like a girl friend, hey you should get one and a life

And my brothers ISA certified (ISA=International Society of Arboriculture) He is the youngest Arborist in Pennsylvania. http://www.isa-arbor.com/findArborist/findarborist.aspx Scroll down to zip code put in U.S then15210 and hit enter and hes the first on the list.

Climber that clears things up a little, I too am working towards ISA certification. I get a little touchy when anyone calls someone else unproffesional, usually they are saying that because in real life they are the true unproffesional.
Like I said we only do tree work un a limite basis We use my dads tractor to chip into just his plain old F250(w/a hoist kid installed under the bed) We use an older PTO powered chipper to chip. this summer Hopefully I can get a good crew leader doing maintenance, so I can better concentrate on developing a tree service.
Climber do you also do lawncare or just tree work. If both how do the two flow together for you.

Thats good Im going to try to get my ISA certification when I turn 18 (3 years practicle practice.) When I said leave it to the pros. I said that because I tought you just did lawns and I didnt know any info on you or your dad. And do you climb if so how do you like it? We did lawns the past 4-5 years (including the past summer) and realized thats it to much bs and people dont think ahead of time. They went to gether ok trees mon-thur and lawns fri. So this year were mainly going to stick to tree care/little landscraping'. We have GMC 1500HD that pulls our bandit 65 chipper. Getting 5 ton low pro dump in the spring with a stump grinder. Rate now were letting the big jobs pass and next spring will be different hopefully! But we have top line climbing, rigging, felling, etc, equipment. So I think were doing fine. O and my brothers 20 got ISA license at 18.

Nice equipment!

So tell me how do you like the weaver with the floating D. And it must suck climbing on 3-strand, and what kind is that multiline or treeline? You should also try out some saftey blue 16-strand (I love it.) How do you like the echo 360, I have a echo 300 and its a dog compaired to the husky 338. Does that 020T got the balls that new ones have or is it average? Ya that homielite' super 925 is about 40 years old and it has a manual oiler but it works. O and why so many backpack blowers?

Thx Dan

I dont use the 3-strand for climbing I use it as a light duty rigging line when pruning. The saddle isnt bad, the only reason I got it, was that it was on sale my next saddle will have more back support to it. The new Echo top handle's have alot more power than the previous echo moldel's. The 020 is definetly a little screamer. Let my employee take 2 blowers and I take the other two on days we do tree work, and then my employee does the lawn maintence route.

I used to climb for my buddy but found hualing pulpwood a better job seeing as my main deal is lawn work.Someone cut the lock on the box on my truck and stole my new saw.I was so pissed.I didnt have it for a day and its gone.I run a 72 IH Loadstar diesel with a prentice loader.I hate those half @ssed cable style loaders.I get my pulpwood from a company that does land clearing and there more than happy that i take everything.I also do work for some of the tree services that dont have stump grinders wich reminds me i need to pick up some cutter teeth later today. Its a old Rayco with the wisconsin but that old girl is a grinding fool.

Ok,
So what line do you climb on? My Buckingham master has alot of support IMO. It has like a 8" backstrap. You can get an add on back support for $30. Heres a link hope it helps. http://www.wtsherrill.com/iwwida.pvx?;products_no_tree?comp=she go to climbing-saddle-saddle accessories. You can get a Master for like $150 or a Master II for like $200. And Im guessing that your running a lawn crew and a tree crew, thats good. Thats how most tree business' in my area started out and they said that the lawn business isn't profitable enough. We said the same.

And redwolf what rayco stumper are you running, and what kind of money do you make with it?

Thx Dan

If not you better watch what you say and you don't know the most about lawns, I bet you don't even have any education in it at least not enough.

I am under the impression that there is no real money in that industry unless you have a big log truck and a good loader.

No beleive it or not there is a ton of money here. There are less tree services then there are lawn services. And since my brothers certified he has the right to charge more for his knowledge. And you can cure diseases and fertilize tree and make butloads' of money. Dont forget this is in Pittsburgh too.
