View Full Version : Towing compact tractor........

I have a John Deere 3320 tractor with FEL that weighs in about 3900 lbs. I currently only have a 2004 Dodge 1500 1/2 ton truck. Would any of you guys feel comfortable towing this weight on a 16 ft. tandem axle trailer with brakes on just one axle? I know everyone is going to say get a 3/4 ton truck but that's not possible for the next 6 months or so.

I have a JD 3120/FEL and a 16' tandem trailer that's been towed with the F150 I have... And the F150 doesn't seem too happy with it, even worse when the back hoe's attached. It just seems like a bit of a strain on my F150 taking off and on hills. Gas mileage also goes way to crap. I want to keep the F150 for as long as possible since it's been a good truck and it's paid for... So I don't tow anything with it if at all possible. And definitely nothing heavy.
I'm sure you could tow it... But depending on how much you plan on towing it you'll have to ask yourself if you're willing to accept the load/strain it'll be putting on your truck.
No of course behind my F250's I don't even notice it's there.

You should be able to tow that no problem, just watch the hills and make sure your brakes work well.
