I read all of these posts and have also looked on gopher graphics website about some different flyers, door hangers, etc. But does anyone know of nay good, somewhat inexpensive software that can be used to create some of these. Also, where would a person find the paper to print a door hanger or do you just have them printed by a company?

Thanks for the help. A New B here finding valuable information.

You can buy the door hanger blanks but it would be easier to just hav e them printed. As for the desktop publishing software look around the web and see if you can find an opensource one for free. There may not be many out there. You may want to pay someone to make those up as well. What speciffically did you not like about Gophers? If you were thinking going multi-color and eally professional looking I've seen a few posts now that say it makes no differnce so don't get overly carried away.

sourceforge.net (sourceforge.net) has a whole bunch of open source programs. You might want to try there.

What exactly do you need, just a photo editor? Try this one http://www.gimp.org/ There is also an opensource desktop package for Linux called Scribus at http://www.scribus.org.uk/index.php

Hi StriperPro,

Can you use your Microsoft paint program to edit the free flyers as well?

Most are works in progress. There are other ones out there with literally thousands of programs to try. It gets mind boggling after awhile. Is there any particular type of program you wanted 29 palms?

No. I just didn't really know what an open source program was, so I figured I'd take a peek. Bad idea! :dizzy:

all open source means is that the code can be viewed by anyone and changed however you want. Firefox is like that. Closed source is proprietary. The programs on SourgeForge are works in progress. There are complete apps that you can download already done without looking at the code it just lets you know that option is available. Pretty geeky still but changing.

We use a desktop publisher called "Printshop, Propublisher" by Broderbund and a clip art catalog by Nova called "Art Explosion" with over 600,000 clip art choices. I believe the total of both was less than $500. With this we can do anything. I use them to do ads and fliers, cards, news letters, and anything I wish to print. Use a color laser printer and the print will not run when wet. You can get paper of any type at Staples or even bring a disk to a printers and have them run something if you don't have the equipment. Saves on set up charges. Your possibilities are endless.

We use http://www.vistaprint.com

We design online, using their software, templates, graphics, etc. We then order the finished product from them and have reasonably priced, well printed sales materials.

Take a look, you might like it.

Microsoft Publisher is not bad; and there's a possibility it on your desktop if you have a MS office package.

Greetings.
I found this site by accident while working for a client who is a landscaper. I've seen some questions regarding door hangers, logo design, etc.
I print beautiful standard-size door hangers (4" x 9") full color glossy (blank back) for $.23 each for 1000.
As for logos - logo design need to be crisp, as simple as possible and READABLE, it must catch someone's eye (and attention...thus client/customer), but it also MUST be able to be duplicated AFFORDABLY (unless you're working for Trump - and then you wouldn't be asking for advice here). Colors should be restricted to black and one or two colors. Any more than that and you are running into BIG bucks. It should be able to be applied as easily to tee shirts and door hangers as it would be for your business cards, stationery and envelopes. As for colors that "fade" as they move across the page....save that for a website, not your stationery and business cards. Additionally, there are plenty of us designers out here that do wonderful simple logo design work $50-150 dollars. It shouldn't break your bank or budget. Make sure you work with a designer that knows the print world, though, so your design is applicable as I outlined above.
Thanks for letting me vent (oops, I meant "share").
