nevermind my first questions for you, all you need to know is don't waste your time on that many doorhangers and mailers my friend. The cost won't justify the jobs you get from it. You are better off targeting certain areas and talking with people with proposals and estimates on site. But if you have some money to burn, good luck with the mail idea

Yes, I am here in the Albany area. I wish we could seperate ourselves all together from the greater NYC area and become 2 states were are all so different in 1000's of ways.
Anyway, back to your post. Why on earth do you want to scatter that paper all over your area when you could do it in person, walking thru neighborhoods, on the phone and target your areas much more directly. Plus you can close business much faster and at a better % in person. The average flyer response it seems on this board is .5% -- 2% using those methods. When I go door to door or my partner or the other guys, we land 5-10% easily and WE pick them first

Mike, how much are you spending to have 10k postcards made up and having them direct mailed? I'm just curious.

It all depends on how good the flyers are, how good they're going to attract business and then how your estimate goes.
I've heard some people send out thousands and get great response, i've heard people send out thousands and get poor results. I sent 5000 out last year at the wrong time and got 3 mowing accounts and 13 one time jobs.
Average rate of return thats said on the site is 1% return...with mass marketing like your saying, you'd be swamped (20K getting 200 calls, did i do math right?) ...real world I doubt you'd get 200 calls. Close rate is normally 1/3 of that 1% of calls. .33% total close rate. Still 66 clients from 20K...still unrealistic to me.
I'm sending out 16K flyers this spring, if I get calls the first week I'll be sending 33K out 2 weeks after that. I expect to get 35 accounts from all this.

I would wait closer to spring, I try to wait until the snow has melted. Everyone likes to be first, but sometimes it can backfire on you.

That's VERY cheap considering the postage alone would cost about $1800, and thats not even printed yet. How did you get them to go low low on the rates?

Where is the company? I've been doing research on direct mail and the least expensive postage for bulk mail that I saw was 18.6 cents, that would mean postage alone would be 1860 dollars, not including print and mailing list.
10,000 printed, designed, mailing list and mailing from http://www.lawncareprinting.com was .34 cents a piece. I am deciding if that's the right place for us to use. I've never done it before, so I don't know.
I'm trying doorhangers first.

And where did you get 10,000 doorhangers $320? Are they color? Are they 12 point card stock?

I got 500 door hangers last year, put out about 150 and got 1 customer. Not worth it. The ad i put in the paper got at least 15 customers. much cheaper and better results.

Well I am not sure what your response rate would be. However, if you take 20k and say you get a 1% response rate that would = 200 calls. Out of 200 calls if you only landed 25% that would be 50 customers. How many customers are you looking to add this year?
