Are you going to re-sod the entire yard or just try to patch in certain areas?

http://www.westernsod.com/index.php?page=install.html do you want the bermuda? Tilling it will only prpigate it more. You'll cut rhyzomes and stolons so it woukld be almost as bad as if you had spriged it in the lawn instead of getting rid of it. Bermuda is the predominant grass here and what most people want. Don't know about where you are.

Well, if you really don't know......round up the whole yard, wait about 2 weeks, till up yard and adding top soil wont hurt either, check pH and add lime if needed, lay sod, fert, water, bill, collect money.

Is the yard primary grass St. Augusine? If you are trying to get rid of Bermuda in St. Augustine good luck. As out4now said tilling it will only make it grow more. You must spot kill the area (are you liscensed?), remove the dead, and then lay new sod, even then it may come back if you don't have it all removed. I've been battling the same problem in my own yard for the past 2 years and it seems like the Berumda is winning out so I'm just going to embrace it. It's better grass anyways, less watering, cinch bugs, etc.
Here's a website that may help you

I am wanting to plant bermuda. It is going to take around 8 pallets, but there is areas that already have bermuda plus patches winter weeds. The bermuda is dead right now so couldn't I just till it all up and lay sod? What is the proper steps for this? What type of fertilizer and when do I put it down? Before I lay the sod or after? Thanks for the help!!!!

One thing I forgot to mention! The customer has a sprinkler system so if I am going to lay new sod down and I need to till up all the old grass what would be your advise on this issue.....?

Good for you for asking and trying, but............
Really, if you don't know this and call youself a landscaper it's like calling yourself a plumber andd not knowing how to fix a faucet. I know you are trying here, but this is advise to not bite off more than you can chew so to speak. I respect your ambition, but learn before you get burned. Otherwise the steps are basically as already stated-do a soil test too.

You need to get a Class 1 Nursery/Floral Registration in order to install the sod or the items listed in your other post. If you're going to spray Round-Up you'll need a pesticide certification.
Their may be other licensing requirements depending on where you're located per City/ County Ordinances.

jayycrew,
There's really not much to doing the install. You'd need to be careful of the irrigation system of course.
Kill trash grass there now. Roto-till the lawn, level as needed, install new sod keeping all joints tight.
You should just get your paperwork in order if you're going to be doing installs.

If you have to ask, you probably shouldnt even bother! Next thing you will be posting is how much you should charge.....
Not to be negative, but It gets old reading all these silly posts by people asking stupid questions.
Search this site and other sites on the internet. Go to DIY's website and read about it yourself.
Just get out and do it!!! IF you fall flat on your a$$, then get up and try it again......................

I'm with you brother! These *%&#$&@ are posting in a help forum and busting this dudes balls. I'm sure all of you got your licensing prior to doing any work for profit or spraying round-up...
Spray the entire lawn with roundup or some non selective herbicide use gloves keep the wand of the sprayer close to the ground so the wind doesn't blow it around use common sense. You have to wait two weeks before you lay the sod. If you see some weeds coming through spot spray again. Tilling the soil is not always necessary. We use a Bluebird thatcher to soil prep in some situations. A hard rake can work well if it's not to large an area. Some people put the fert. down before they lay the sod I don't like crawling around in it so we fert. after the install. Use whatever the grower suggests usually a 19-19-19 or 12-12-12 Check with the grower they will give you the best advice for your geographic area.
