I service Coatesville, Downingtown, and some in Oxford, as far out as Chester Springs and West Chester. My goal this year is to try and make my routes alot tighter. I am pretty spread out right now.

Natty,
yes on Oregon Rd. I am part time so it sits there more than I use it. :p
I took the magnets off for the winter. What is your business name? Or what color truck do you drive? Lots of rigs out there with no names on them.

Blade Runner, I think I have seen you around town. :) I have a green Chevy 2500 with my logo on the door and tailgate, Living Soils Lawn & Landscape. I hail from Conestoga but travel to Township area to work.
We need to start putting Lawnsite.com emblems on our trucks.

I think I have seen you dude. Do you do a lot of work in township/Lititz area? I am part time so I am limited to what I can do at this point.

I'm in Erie now, but I'm familiar with your area, my in-laws used to live in Elizabethtown. My daughter is in their house now, she teaches high school in Palmyra. I had been at a college in the Lehigh Valley for about 14 years, and a landscape company in the same area for 7 years before I moved back up here. I can probably help you with most of your questions if you haven't already gotten answers.

Hey guys. I'm in Maryland, but hope to move to south central pa this fall. Not sure where. I'm thinking somewhere between chambersburg and york, and south of Harrisburg. Anyhow, what do I need to do be legit in Pennsylvania? Also, anyone know of decent piece of land for sale in the area? Looking for enough space for 3 possibly 4 houses. A small farm would be perfect.

Hey Matt, I would say you're NorthWEST of philly. :-)

I just posted in the new business section but a quick question to those familiar with PA. I'm considering doing part time lawn care, any major things I should be worried about with PA law (pesticide license and such), just starting out?

anyone from sc pa..lot's of questions no answers..yes i'm licensed

I'm in the Allentown area. What are you licensed for? I've been trying to get info for licensing and no one knows anything but for the pesticide lic. Of course every muni here wants a piece of the pie but I refused to pay the fees with my other business and I'm damn that the 4 muni I do business in get a piece. Actually my CPA never heard of anyone ever getting caught. Not that is makes it right!

here is a link for the pesticde stuff in PA. You SHOULD get it and the insurance. I know around here my crews have been stopped at least 3 times this year while working. They are supposedly spending alot more on enforecement these days.

here is the link:

Caught for what?
I sub out the fert and pest. It's not illegal to not have insurance (I DO HAVE IT). So the only thing I know they can get you for is every muni has taxes and they can fine you for not registering with them. Usually the fine is the price of the app. I pay local, state and federal taxes.

If you are caught spraaying anything for profit, ie Round Up on beds even if just 2 gallons of mix Dept of Ag can fine you.

We do alot of Commercial and every crew has a 3 gallon tank with them. Even if your transporting with No MSDS sheets its a violation.

If anyone can help me out. I am now of age to be able to get licensed and insured. (I'm 18 now.) I am just wondering what process do I have to go throught to register my business with the state and what are the DOT regulations for a truck and a trailer (I have a F-150 and am purchasing either a 6x12 or 7x14 foot enclosed.) Also how much in insurance should I get I primarily do residential work but would like to pick up some commercial work. Keep in mind I am only doing this part time until I am done college then i will go full time. If anyone has any info please let me know Thanks again.

lilweeds
01-30-2010, 01:07 PM
There is NO license in PA to cut grass, maintain beds and the such. If you are doing decks, patios, walls that cost over 5k then you need to register with the AG.

Insurance call Peter Nelson at 610-286-0975. Best rate for landscaping and get the amount you need. If you live at home and have nothing 250k will do.

PM me if you have other questions. Also if anyone has any leads in Berks County or the Lehigh Valley I will gladly help you out in your area.
