My Dixie has a Kohler EFI 28 HP engine with 398 hours and it runs great. My previous Dixie had a Kohler 25 with 1200 hours and it ran great as long as it didn't blow head gaskets.

My machine has no hour meter, but has 8 seasons. I know how much I've used it from season to season, and I think it has at least 7,500 hours. The engine has been replaced one time, at end of the first four seasons. The current one has four seasons, and I thought it would need replacing at the end of 2005, but still is OK. This means it has at least 3,500 hours. My major concern are the hydro pumps and wheel motors -- nothing has been done to them, other than an annual fluid change. It is an Exmark Viking, 36" with 15hp Kohler, single cylinder.

no way you are putting almost 1K hrs per year....
more likely less than 500....

here we only get 400 or so on a machine per yer and have large accounts and mow 30 weeks per year

Yeah 1k a year in hours? thats too much I can see 500 to 700 and that if its running pretty much all day every day.
There is no reason why you shouldn't get 2-3k on an engine.IMO It's just a matter of a good preventative maintenance program. In my mowers I use a heavier oil in the hottest months of summer and I keep them clean constantly.

Well, I don't know, I average 350 hours(by the meter) and I am solo and don't really push it to see how many yards I can cut. I can see someone with a helper doing pretty close to 3 times the work I do in a summer and fall. Especially if that is the only mower used.

Anyone out there that can say they do 1000 hours a year. My guess is that it is.

mine has 258 on it. When i was at my dealer he told a guy with a walker came in and put over 1000 hours on it in mowing(7 months), and then said it was a piece of crap. No maintenance on it. Needless to say the dealer said don't come back.

How many hours? Well, I don't use the same mowers that most of the people on lawnsite do. But our Honda 21s are working a good 25 hours each week, at least 45 weeks of the year we are mowing. So that's 1125 hrs. per year. And they seem to last about 4 years before they are unusable. So I guess around 4500 hours???

Just like to back up the 1000 hours thing I only cut grass 3 days a week last year and put 735 on my walker 1000 could be done easily. We had a keez get over 5k we ended up taking the deck off and making a spray machine out of it.
