I'm a Walker guy. Love them and my business is based on them. I looking into buying a new diesel. Just whating to know what kind of life in hrs. and if any problems you have. I need to know if I can justify 9000.00 on a 20 hp. gas or 12200.00 on a diesel. Or maybe someone has a good used diesel or watercooled unit for sale. Does anybody have the new 31 hp kohler?

I run walkers also. I will not put out the extra money for the diesel because as you probably know after 2, 3 years or 2500+ hours the mower starts having little problems that nickel and dime you to death. Electrical, computer issues, grass catching issues( just wearing out from heavy use), never really had any engine issues. I keep them for three years tops and them sell them or trade them in. Now I am running 28 HP EFI, great engines. I am buying new ones this spring and have not looked into the 31hp. Have you heard anything good about the 31hp?

I agree with TJ, seems like the mower wont last as long as they claim the engines will. I've been thinking about it but now I'm sticking with 20hp from here on out. I also have a 26hp and the engine has been replaced at 800 hrs. Buddy of mines got a 20 coming up on 1500 hrs. By the way, mine was less than 2 yrs old so Kohler replaced it.

last fall I demo one I thought they had to much power for the 48inch deck GHS deck it might be ok if you had the 60inch side discharge deck or maybe anyother attchments I wouldn't get one it sucks to much fuel. I had to fill it 2-3 times a day cleaning up leaves I mowed about 10 acres that day with it

I was looking at the too. The dealer said the enigines were good for at least 5000 hours. Plus the fuel savings. Here it is only $2000 more for the diesel.

Thanks for all the input. I run 20 Hp now put seem never to get more than 1500 to 1600 Hrs. on the engine. The Kohler guys at the Lousville expo said that the engines in the walkers run hoter because of the enclosed conditions. A new engine is 1600 or to rebuild is around 600.00. I just look at $ 3200.00 at 3000 hrs. and see the same as a diesel. Another issue I have is bad back fire when I turn the more off. Also I've read cleaning the screen on top of the catcher will help in clogging. Any thoughts on these issues. Thanks

There is not enough savings in the diesel to make the extra cost worth while. About 1/4 gal per hour at the most. I would go for the EFI unit next time.

I changed my engin at 2900 hours on my 20 HP Walker. Heat and dirt are the killers. I blow the engin and air filter out every morning with compressed air. I also run Moblie 1 oil. Let your mower run a few minutes to cool down before shuting it off and you will not get the "back fire". Walker has a new screen for the hopper with large holes that will help reduce the clogging problem.

One mistake, I am running 26EFI in my Walkers. The 28EFI is on my Dixies.
The 26EFI is on the 48" Walkers. The 28EFI is on the 60" Dixie Choppers.
Sorry. Both are great engines for the machines they are on.
