I have just picked up a client that has a lawn full of different kinds of weed and grass mix. There is a large patch of very health cenipede grass in the center of the lawn. This customer wants all the grass to be cenipede. I told here if she waited a couple of years the cenipede would overtake the weeds and other grass but she does want to wait and I cant blame her. She said she has watched the ceinpede spread but it is going down the slope and never has come up the slop in here yard.

My question is what can I do to this yard to get it to be all cenipede grass?

Any suggestions woud be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Try to wait until soil temps reach 60 degrees and roundup all of the other grasses besides the centipede. Buy some centi-seed or some Pennington brand seed and an older shoulder strap cyclone seeder (the one with a canvas bag) and use a knife-blade to adjust the hopper opening to the width of a butter knife. Doing it this way you don't have to mix with sand. Read the package carefully when seeding to determine the correct rate per 1000 sq ft. Once the other grasses have died, till or power rake and remove all of the root clumps (labor intensive). Have the soil to a powder like consistency and seed and rake in covering the seed .25 inch deep. keep soil moist and keep the area cut low all summer. Weeds will come up with the centipede seedlings and you will not notice the new seedlings till fall or winter. I seeded my whole yard with this method and had 60% coverage the first year and 90% the second year.

How much sun does your yard get during the day? Im also concern with this yard not getting as many cuts during the year as well. She want her yard to look nice but as soon as the lawn looks like it has stop growing she suspends service until the growing season. She may call bac once more to do a fall clean up.

Am I hurting myself by suggesting centipede or should I recommend another type of grass?
