Purchased a new Kubota ZD21 ZTR this week. Machine has a 60" deck, 21 HP diesel engine, with hydraulic lift. The unit appears to be well built and designed. This is my first ZTR machine, had a John Deere f932 front mount before. The only thing negative I see about the machine is that it tears the turf when doing zero radius turns. Do you guys experience the same thing with your ZTR machines? Kubota has extra wide tires on these units and am wondering if it is the wide tires or all ZTR machines?

Congrats on your new machine. My neighbor has a diesel Kubota, (not a ZTR) and his yard looks GREAT. 6 years he has used his machine and zero problems.

Congratulations, those new kubotas are really nice looking machines. You can't just spin around when you turn, I make a 3 point turn to avoid tearing up the grass. Maybe some of the old veterans can tell you more about turning, I haven't had my ztr very long and don't have that much experience to talk about. Good Luck

Congrads on the mower. Just a question why Kubota over a Walker? same engine, up to a 62" deck, and been producing them a lot longer and save a few bucks. Nothing against Kubota's just curious.

Skippy,
Bought the Kubota because I have 4 other pieces of Kubota equipment and think that it is great equipment. My dealer that sells Kubota is very good and takes good care of me.
Do you have a ZTR? Do you tear up turf with the zero turns?

I hope you like yours as much as I like mine. How do you like the pivoting front axle, this is one of my favorites and ofcourse the hydraulic deck lift, and throw in the price of the other leading ztr with a disel and you cant beat it.

All zero turns do this if you spin them. You must learn the three pt. turn.

I don't have that problem with my Walkers!
Congrats on the new Kubota!
They do make nice equipment.
They look like a nice machine.
How does it handle on hills?
Are you able to run across them very well, or mostly up and down?
When going down a steep incline, do you have good control?
It seems like it would be front heavy like most other mid-mounts.
does your walker not tear up turf in a spin.
that would classify as pertinent information
for those buying equipment.this is to capdevo

My answer to does my walker tear up turf is it depends on the turf, terrain, etc. I always do 3 pt. turns just to be safe. Sometimes you don't need to but why chance it it'll just make your work not lookk as good.

Personally, i do not have a problem turning around and tearing turf.
The key is not to pivot on a stopped tire.
Practice, practice, practice.....
It is possible and easy to tear turf on any machine.
The only time i have to do a three point is on damp soft ground with the aggressive all-terrain tires.
Every machine has it's place and every person has their preference.
When spending alot of money on equipment, you should experiment and demo each to find which suits you best.
I have found the Walker Mowers to be the best for my application. Mainly for: ease of use, manueverability, resale value, construction, etc......
i understand ,my exmark is the same capt.thanks for reply

Hi Jon... congratulations on your Kubota ZTR. I've seen em in brochures. I want one, maybe next year though, I'm buying a new trailer next week, and can't spend all my money. Can I ask you a couple of things about it? Do the spindles have grease fittings? And is the deck stamped or welded? The picture looks stamped... I was always under the assumption stamped wasn't as rugged as the welded.

Killershark,
The spindles do have grease fittings. There are a total of 12 grease points on the machine, which is more than most machines I have looked at. I think this speaks loudly for Kubota quality and longevity. The machine is stamped from 9 gage metal. I would not worry about these Kubota decks, there is no way this deck won't last 30 years. I have never owned or operated a ZTR before this, however, I believe this machine is a real winner. I do have 4 other pieces of Kubota equipment and I think Kubota is tops!!

Capt, your crazy. Any zero turn will tear up if one tire is pivoted on. Doesn't matter if its a chopper, lazer, walker, kubota, or any other. Its a heavy machine with large tires on grass. Heck, even a walkbehind will tear the turf if you don't turn correctly.

Great looking machine ,I think i woud be afraid of the hydro unit as it is all one piece ,I think i would rather remove a few bolts and hoses to change a pump than to change the whole trans and pump as a unit

PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT I SAID.
"All zero turns do this if you spin them."
I guess we both said it in different ways.

I stopped at the Kubota dealer near me today and he gave me a price of $8800 and 9300. That's no dickering. How's that sound. He had none in stock, he said they've been going out pretty quick.

Is it too early to tell how well it cuts Bahaya grass yet?

Bahaya grass?

I may have spelled it wrong. Tall, spindley grass with black seeds on the top. It's what they use for making hay sometimes. It's really not growing now though. At least not here.
