Edging beds

What exactly are you guys talking about when you speak of edging beds?? Are you talking about using a deticated bed edger,? Or a regular sidewalk edger, or just a trimmer , or round-up? What would the proper way to build a new bed?? A customer wants some around his house and I would like to know how to proceed. Thanks

I can only speak for myself. When I edge a bed I get out the old fashioned long handled spade. Some guys use a stick edger or trencher.
