This is what i started with this leaf season. It is not a dump, but you do what you gotta do. I bought a 12' Dumper later, but did not take pics. I will be posting some pics of all my Equipment and Such around March. We have grown so much in just one year. It is almost unreal.

Hey Collegiate!
How is that curbside leaf pickup going? Do you find many people don't mind raking or blowing it in a pile but hate to bag it up??? We are looking to purchase a leaf machine late summer for the fall.
Any advice on this is appreciated...
Thanks, Buddy

that thing "sucks"!
That is a pretty good idea with the advertising "curb side pickup" on the side. Do most of you customers rake their leaves and have it ready for you to come or do you do all the blowing yourself too? I saved that pic. Will deffinatly consider that when im ready to expand next year.

Question, why pimp the Billy Goat name on the leaf trailer? Do they pay you? Just curious.
Also how much did it suck unloading that? Be honest!
The dumper will make it a lot easier!

Lots of great questions. I would strongly urge anyone going into the Leaf Clean Up business to get the dumper, truck or trailer, just get a dumper. That thing takes about 1 hour to unload full. But you can hold about 2 tons to 2.5 tons litterally. Anyway, I just put the Billy Goat on the side because it takes up some space and i thought i looked good. No perks from their end.
The setup i have for the dumper is very similar only a 12' Dump instead of a 16' trailer. The Billy Goat is 16hp and works great for dry leaves and good for wet leaves. Piles with lots of Debris and Junk it does not do so well with. I am looking to buy a Huge machine for next season due to the overwelming response we have been getting. Pull into a neighborhood and hit about 10 piles during the busy season. Not bad, but with this new machine i could potenially do 15 to 20 jobs a day, curbside. By the way, if you want a good deal on the Billy goat(s) in the pic shot me an email from my website or pm from here and we can talk.
Thanks for the responses.

I forgot to tell this, Most of my customers do not touch their own properties. I give them a sweet deal on full service b/c when my truck pulls up and sits for 45 mins while my crew goes in to clean up i usually recieve about 2 or 3 calls just from that saying "we saw your truck out at joe blows house today and want you to come do our leaves." No problem for me to give my customer who i already service for mowing and mulch etc a great deal b/c of that very reason.

I am planning to add the leaf pickup to our list of services this year so this thread is really a good one for me. I have decided on the ODB unit that is completely self contained. Link to it : http://www.xtremevac.com/details-scl-specs.html
After some research I think there are so many "right" ways to set it up as far as machinery goes. My real question is the customers. What percentage of customers would you guess that used to do their own leaves now do part and have you do the rest? I have heard so many people mention....I don't mind raking the leaves but I HATE having to pick them up.
We thought we would offer the full service leaf cleanup but also offer like you have on your rig..."Curbside Leaf Removal".
Great plan....tell me more!!!us flag

Was wondering how much you charge for pickup only? If i do this i think i will give a deal such as first person this much and for each additional neighbour *this* much. then they can split the bill or i can bill them seperate.

Hi, I been looking into things, planning for this fall. I found the trailer I hope to get. It is a 12' or for another 1000 i get 14' which i dont think is worth it.
I have my eye on a billy goat "18HP Heavy-Duty Pro Series Truck Loader" This is a B&S Vanguard V-twin. Will this unit be powerful enough or do you reccomend finding something bigger? I dont want the hassle of slow under powered junk that i will regret buying. Any info would be great. Thanks -------Korey
PS. how high are the sides of your trailer? 6-7'?

It depends on how many accounts you plan on servicing. How long is will run each day, etc. If you are as busy as i am i would go ahead and get a bigger vac. But if you are just starting out and trying leaf vacuuming go with the smaller one and do a test first. Hope this helps.

Ben, Lee,
I've been mowing in Salem and Glenvar the past few years. I've been spending some time on this site trying to find some new contacts. Could either of you email me at tshannon@roanoke.edu and maybe we could meet sometime and talk business. Thanks in advance. Just want to get in with the lawn care industry a little more.
