Jim K of Turf Magazine has graciously offered their booth as a meeting point for Lawnsite Members. We are thinking that a noon time gathering at the Turf Magazine booth might be a start for helping members put faces to screen names. I would suggest that each day at noon, members plan on gathering there. If dinner plans or other gathering plans are made, we could leave the details there for late arrivers. Thanks, Jim!

This sounds like a fun time. Maybe this will be the year I make it down there, since I've never been to this event before. Thanks Jim for offering your booth for a meeting site for Lawnsite members. :)
I should make it down, I am only about 45 miles from there, off I-65. I will try!

EXPO will be July 20 - July 22, 2001 in Louisville Kentucky. The official name is: International Lawn, Garden& Power Equipment Exposition. There will be 600 companies exhibiting. Check out the details @ http://expo.mow.org
Eric and the rest of you ... do try to make EXPO in Louisville. It's a great show -- with indoor and outdoor exhibits. Great chance to try out gear and meet others in the industry. (Just be prepared for very warm, humid weather).
I go every year and continue to look forward to it! And it would be great to meet up at TURF's booth. Guess I better order some extra chairs.

I'd love to be there, I'll just have to figure out how to juggle things so I can make it. I just registered, so I'll plan on seeing you all there.

With all the rain we had last yr., we weren't able to make it. This year we're gonna try again. We went back in '99, & had a great time. If you've never been there, GO. Set aside time in schedulle NOW to GO! You won't regret it. Tons of exhibitors, inside & out. Just be sure to bring a hat for outside to keep cool; back in 99 it about 'fricaissied' our brains out! Got to demo about every mower under the sun, which enabled me to choose which one to buy the next year.
Also loved the backhoes & excavaters-diggin to China at the fairgrounds! Great stuff, & lots of freebies too. Don't miss it.

Also, Jim is open to suggestions of what would make this more fun and more effective. Put your thinking caps on and let us know!

Time to bring this to the top again.
Will there be pictures posted on ls? I would love to go, but maybe that is just too far for me. I loved the idea of meeting around here. Maybe next year.

I just registered to attend. I won't be going for the expo, I'll be going just to meet the fine LS members.
You all that are so close are lucky. I've got 10 to 12 hours to drive. I registered last year, but couldn't get away. Hopefully I will be there this year. Is it worth it to bring the trailer. Are there deals to be had that would warrant dragging it with?

I posted a thread on this two days ago and lots of views, nobody responds... you guys kill me. I'll be there, this is my fourth year. ERIC- I can't believe you've never been! It is like disneyworld for lawncare folks. You need to circle the 20,21,22 of july and work your route around it. It is definelty worth it. Dave g

Yes, Ben, and others, you can often get a good deal on equipment at the Louisville Expo and other trade shows. Maybe not too often on basic equipment, but newer manufacturers of specialty equipment will often sell their demos rather than haul them back home. But you would have to take it late on the last day of the show. The larger mower companies and such have touring exhibits that go to shows and special events constantly, so they usually do not sell their demos. You can often find discounted sales at shows on many pieces of equipment. You would pay, at least a significant deposit, at the show, but you will still take delivery through your local dealer. Probably would not be worth dragging a trailer more than a few dozen miles to any show, unless you have a deal set up in advance.

A HAT !!!!!
I wasnt gonna go, but now I am !!!
Gotta get my free hat.....
Seriously,
I have been attending this show for many years, this at one time was a dealer only show, but times have changed, with so much end user input, I dont think they could have the show with out the contractors there !!
Plenty to do and plenty to see, if you can go it is well worth the time....

I was not able to go last year. I already have my airline tickets and motel reservations. The wife is coming with. This will be a short vacation for us. I have already strated letting my customers know so there will be no surprises. We are flying up Thursday night so everybody gets mowed one day earlier.
If you plan on going I suggest you check out airline ticket prices now if you plan on flying. We got ours at a pretty good deal with US Air from Charlotte, NC.
Noon at the Turf booth. We will be there.

talk about freebies: I usually come home with hats, pens, keychains, magazines and TONS of literature. ALOT of equipment is sold "under the table"after the show. ASK ! it is usually sold at dealers price or less, but if you fly, good luck checking a backpack or trimmer at the luggage counter. My brother got a new TRACK VAC with the two 55 gallon drums and 6 horse honda engine for 850 bucks after they demo'd at the show. He drove and squeezed it in his montero, put it on his new laser. loves it for leaves! bagged and ready to leave at the curb- Dave g

You can be sure to see me there.
So, its noon on Friday the 20th?
I guess I need to have some LawnSite.com t-shirts made up!
How about some X-Large with the logo acorss the back/shoulders and a small logo on the front pocket area.
Would you guys wear them? Should I send them to you before the show or just have them there?
Any ideas?

Thanks Jim for the booth use and hope to see a lot of you there..

Jim from Turf,
How about a table where we can exchange business cards...
If that doesn't make sense how about offering business card space to sponsors?
I would be willing to compensate Turf Magazine in some way for flyer or business card space to promote a 'special'.
Just a thought. If it's conflict of interest then I understand.:D

Being that this would be my first time there I want to make it into a vacation for the family. Where do you recommend we stay within reasonable driving distance as well as what is there for my wife and kids to do during the day. I know they could sit around the pool but are there any other areas they can go that are fun as well as safe?
Ary help would be appreciated.

MowEd,
Right next to the convention center there is an amusement park that is fairly substantial. I mean, it's not a Six Flags or a Kings Island Cincinnati but there's some pretty decent rides there.
It would be easy to give em a couple hundred bucks, point them to the park and your a free man:D
It uses the same parking lot too, so you could easily set a rendevouz time.
THE amusement at the fairgrounds is a six flags park , pretty nice and there is a lot of other things as well in the area.

06-18-2001, 02:37 PM
Well thank you JBLawn.
I didn't realize that park had been absorbed into the Six Flags System. I think it's called Kentucky Kingdom?
It should be even better now than I remember.
All you folks approaching Louisville from the Northeast by car will likely pass by Kentucky Speedway on I-71, some 30 or so miles south of Cincinnati. You can see it from the expressway on the right hand side.
This is our newest crown jewel. There was a Busch series event here last weekend and they expect to get Nascar there soon.

Is the EXPO something that a newcomer to the commercial lawncare biz can attend and learn something? It sounds excellent and getting there is a piece of cake. (my part time job is with a major airline)
I wasn't sure if I would go at first, but the free hats sold me! :D

Hey, anybody from Tennessee or Nashville going to the Expo??? I am all set and ready, and wondered if someone wants to ride with me. Let me know and maybe we can work something out. I am new here and really looking forward to meeting all of you and especially learning from you pro's. Eric, I'll get you your hat, even if I have to buy it and ship to you! Or maybe yet, I can deliver it to you and you teach me those wonderful stripe patterns!!!

You can bet your booties I'll be there. Went last year and happily wore myself out going to all the exhibits - and I'm sure I only hit a small fraction of them. This year I'm gonna win one of those trucks and drive home in style! Question: Is there a way we can get tags at this guy's booth so that we can wear our Lawnsite names for all to see and recognize. I'm very much looking forward to meeting you Eric, Yardsmith, and everyone else! Maybe we can fire up that Lazer-Z/Dixie Chopper debate. What fun!

I was trying to find someone to ride with me to the expo. I got a new truck (good on mpg) but if you want someone to ride with you, and split expenses, I can ride with you. Just got my expo-stuff in the mail the other day. ( haven't been to Louisville since I went to a Kiss concert at Freedom Hall about 4 years ago)

Being new to this wonderful site, and loving it, I have an Expo question. How many days will it take to cover everything? Me and oneEXMARKfan are going to be there and I would like to see some of the seminars, but also meet you wonderful people and especially all the new toys!!! Is 2 days enough or can it be done in 1? Thanks for all your suggestions.

To see all the exhibits and demo equip, 2 days are neccessary IMHO. Some Indiana motels are ramada riverside 812 284 6711, great location with super restuarants in walking distance. Super 8, 812 282-8000 motel 6, 812 283 7703. Will save money at these but location is not as good. Holiday inn lakeview is a bit pricy but has it all including an adjacent water park, indoor pool and a super location 812 283 4411. Campgrounds are KOA, also near water park, 812 282 4474. Hope this helps. Doublesharp

If anybody is, about 10 miles south of the OHIO-KENTUCKY border, when you see that big red and white striped water tower on the right that says Florence Yall, I live about a mile from there. Honk as you drive by!! LOL
I'm bringing the RV down, so I have plenty of room for freebies!
If there is a big enough discount, I may buy some new equipment, but if not I'm sticking with my dealer.
