Can you hear the music really good through these or not? I'm a little skeptical that you still get a lot of background noise. I appreciate your opinions.

last year was my first year using them and I couldn't live without them now. I'd been mowing for years with just ear protection and I was skeptical too, but they work great. I only have on property where I don't get a good signal.

WHAT DID YOU SAY?????? lol. No, they really do cut down on the noise but not to the point that you dont hear automobiles and machinery around you. I wish they were a little louder, but I abused my hearing in the past and now im realizing it.They are worth the price and a good investment

They do a good job of blocking outside noise will still being able to hear the broadcast (music or talk). They do not get really loud but that is to protect your ears as well.

I love mine (22db). I can hear the tunes just fine. They make 2 models, the 22db and the 25db. My next pair are going to be the 25db NRR. I have a feeling Im going to love them even more!

All the good ! I've made two pair last 5 seasons. I tooks them apart and added some modified bitume and extra foam to achive what i would guess to be another db or two better in reducing out side noise.

I'd recommend the ELVEX rechargeable models. :clapping: They last for a few days on each charge and will save a you a ton on battery expenses. Just don't buy the type with built in microphones, you don't need it, won't use it and won't like the extra cost.

Started using them a few years back andlike everyone else, can't imagine doing the job without them. We have several pairs. Peltor did change the style of them last year and it has good with the bad. The good is the way that the on/off is now tied in with the volume knob. The bad is that the battery access door is now on a plastic hinge, instead of being a removable panel. The plastic hinges wear out in 6 to 12 months, depending on how use care for them. Still definitely worth the money though!

i love them also but, wish they made some that wrap around the back instead of the top. I cant wear my full brim hats with them. And im not wearing a ball cap and acquiring a RED NECK!

Hey above all, did you purchase your Peltors locally? I've been thinking about getting a pair, or other similar brand, but haven't noticed them here.
I know what you're saying Curbappeal. I can't wear my bush hat with my ear protection. Bummer. You gotta stick a bandana under your cap and drape it back down over your neck. But In real hot weather you can get that bandana wet and it'll cool you off nicely.

You can get new Peltors from ebay about half the price as any other place. The ones from Wally World are not as loud as the one I bought from a local dealer.

If you are a do it yourselfer you might want to take a look at this thread http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=128423 .
Cheap alternative to hot earmuffs and they sound good too. I have not completely tested them. Have not cut with them yet (no grass to cut right now) but I did trim hedges with them with good results. I think I paid $10 for the earphones and the cost of some ear plugs. If all fails I have some $7 earmuffs from J-Thomas that have an additional 25db that will fit right over them giving double the noise blocking.

Just a little recommendation here. A friend of mine was at Tractor Supply and picked up the last three "Bilsom" headphones they had on closeout. $29.95.
I've had Peltors for two years now but the Bilsoms muffle out the outside noise better, thus making the music more audible. Definitely worth it if you ever see a pair.
To those using earbuds (walkman, iPods, mp3 players, etc) in your ear and then placing a good set of ear muffs on.... Just be prepared for snagging your cords.
Back in the 80's and 90's I used to have a Sony Walkman that I used every day. No hearing protection (was young and dumb), but the music kept me going. Anyway, I CONSTANTLY was snagging the cords on branches, etc.
With the Peltors/Elvex's, you don't have a cord to snag. Everything is built in.
Only thing I wish they would offer is digital tuning. Say like 4-6 presets, and tuning that doesn't constantly need tweaking. If I turn my head real quick sometimes I need to re-adjust the tuning on mine. If I duck under a branch and accidently hit the tuner knob, it sometimes takes a few minutes of searching for the channel I was on. You would think all digital tuning would be cheaper to make? No moving parts, etc. Oh well.

Thanks for the heads up on the Bilsom AM/FM headphones. I just went to TSC and got a pair.
For those who like MP3's, Skullcandy.com has a MP3 headphone.
