View Full Version : Hedge Trimming
I have a few yews, apple trees, and really over grown box wood hedges, (i think). Can i trim them now? Or is it to cold? I live in SW Pennsylvania. And if it is to cold, what is a good temp to start trimming?
I hope this is the right form. I didnt want to go to the commercial forms because this is in my own yard.
Thanks

I am also in SW PA. I believe you are OK with anything you've mentioned.
I do work commercially, and was able to do customer work in January when we had some good work days. I did some yews, boxwoods, and burning bushes. I think you want to stay away from the ornamentals or other trees that are starting to raise sap already. Last week when we had a warm day (mid-50s), I saw a maple pushing sap out of a bud -- no cut, just a simple bud. Those kinds of trees or ornamentals could be trouble now with the pressure of spring sap; wait until another time.
Where are you in Pittsburgh area?
I live a couple of mins from the Pitts Internations Airport. And just a few mins from the Robinson Mall. How about you?
Thanks for the info.
Once it gets a little warmer, I will Start this massive project.
