I'm at 2.5" or 3" , depending on the lawn. Most of my lawns are mostly weeds with a little tall fescue in them.

My first cut/cleanup/vac of the season is usually at 2 1/2".Then I pick it up to 3 and 3 1/2 by june.

I start out at 2.5" and work my way up to 3.5" to 4" on some during the hot months. There is one I keep at 2.5" since the owner insists. This one has a lot of shade so it's not the thickest lawn and it's easy to keep at 2.5". The rest are 3" or more.

Since I have only fixed decks, I set mine at 3" and leave it there. May not be the best setting but it seems to work as a happy medium.

2.5-3.0
One lawn at 2.0......they insist, but with his great irrigation system, the lawn looks unbelievable with it cut short. Golf course quality.

I cut all at 3" all year long. I've found it looks good and does not turn brown during summer months. The lawns look great from spring into the fall season.

I cut most at 3". Better lawns will move to 3.5" in a few weeks. Some non-weekly scrappy ones are usually cut at 2.5"

I was cutting Spring and Fall clean-ups at 2.5" to give it that neat look, but the rest of the year at 3".

Like someone already said, that was a happy medium; half of the customers will tell you too short, the other half not short enough if you go + or - 3", so I stayed at that.

Hope this helps!

Now I'm at 2.5" but will go to 3" . My final cuts in the fall will be at 2". We have a lot of snow here and keeping it short for the winter seems to help against snow mold.

Say, what kind of fescue are you talking about? In Georgia the fescue (mostly turf blends) would not tolerate a short cut like that. Seems to like 3" to 3.5" during most of the year. Can go to 2.5" in the spring and late fall.

I use a rye mix,but without much fescue-only about 8% fescue.I use it on my tees at 1/2",since it germinates quickly,it is perfect for tees, where they are constantly getting beat to death,we grow them hard too up to 7-8 lb/1000 per year of N .I also use a similar mix in my fairways which are cut at 5/8" to 3/4 " all year.if there is no irrigation, they burn out by mid june-but irrigated fairways stay green all summer.

I cut back the bermuda and zoysia to as short as i can, and the fescue is at 3.5, and will go up as it heats up Dave

Creeping Fescue. We mow 37-40 times a year with no snow cover and get alot of rain. Ya got to keep it short or it's a mess. Any chemical fert I use will have IBDU in it because we get so much rain, stuff grows like crazy.

3" on 85% of the lawns, some as high as 3.5". In the fall, its as low as 2.5" for a final cut.

bermuda..1.5" until late august then 2" will scalp it down to 1" in March.

Tall fescue..3" to 3.5" will take these lawns down .5 " when doing leaf clean ups.

According to the book for northern IL., the first cut should be 2", then 2.5" till May 28th, then 3" till end of season. Last cut set deck back to 2". This is supposed to promote good root growth and helps grass stay green thru hot dry times. This has always worked good for me.
